Shardfall
Added 2025-09-30 23:19:09 +0000 UTCIn this remote forest far from civilization, a solitary figure toils in it's labor from dawn to dusk. Brick by brick, it lays the foundation as it's tattered robes barely conceal the crystalline growths protruding from it's body, consuming what little flesh remains.
Season after season, it continued to build the Plinth for the crystalline array. At the beginning of it's labors, it resembled something much more humanoid, much more natural. But after such exposure to it's magnum opus, very little of that being now remains. As the crystals were erected on their supports, and the alignment set, the shepherd's physical form began to shift even more dramatically.
Purpose and intent began to fade from the shepherd's mind, only the singular objective of the task at hand. As the body and mind were consumed by the crystalline nature of it's creation, the need for sustenance and rest seemed to abide, making way for more time for the work.
The labor is nearly complete now. The shepherd barely remembers why the work was started, let alone what it used to be. Now, with the end so clearly in sight, the shepherd takes solace in the fact that soon, the array will be completed, and it's final purpose revealed.
