The episode out east where we picked the Time Capsule 1930’s vintage collection?

The women who owned the house and collection were designers and the family packed up their entire collection of designs that sailed around the globe with them, in the 1930’s. A few decades later, the passenger ship would fall out of fashion. By the 1960’s air flight became the preferred way to travel around the world.

It’s believed that The family of Women had servants who lived with them and traveled with them to help sew their designs as they globetrotted. I’ve attached a video link of some rare 1930’s passenger ship footage. Link is at the bottom of this post.

Can you imagine what the servants quarters on a passenger ship looked like? They must have been very small. I remember entering the servants quarters at the house during the pick. I had a lot of feelings. At that time it would have been a great job in the service industry but the quarters were small and the difference in comforts from the upstairs household were obvious. The difference in lifestyle was a lot to process. Regardless, I admired the fruits of their combined labor and was in awe of the house.

I will offer more information as I post more about the collection. I wanted to share this hand made, one of a kind original design with my patrons.

I’m currently working on a costume for my daughter as well. I’ll post more about that soon.
