I know that throughout most of the country, water is an issue that’s not really talked about as much anymore. We see flooding and drought in the Midwest but I don’t see many backup water tanks. I am reminded of this because today the island started water rationing again. What an interesting concept that we are surrounded by so much water yet we have to ration out our water on the island. Basically this means that throughout half of the island (not our home this time) people are allowed to use their water supply only every other day.
In Puerto Rico most homes, or I should say the homes that can afford it, keep water tanks on their roofs. We have a water tank on our roof for emergency back up water so we are prepared for this type of situation. The water tank on the roof simply catches the rainwater for future drought.
I’m just wondering why we don’t do this throughout the United States as well? I have not seen that myself living in the Midwest but I’m wondering along the coast lines do people do this? Or is this just something that’s only done on the islands? Do you have a water tank on your roof? Is this something that is normal where you live?
I’ve actually heard that in certain places in the United States you can be fined money for harvesting rain and in Colorado it is illegal to catch and reuse rainwater. Have you heard of this?
Also, my orange tree is finally growing 🍊
