Added 2023-01-10 06:08:03 +0000 UTCHappy 2023! This one was a really challenging set to do and I think it's a nice way to start the year. I've been deliberately avoiding more "standard" portrait shots unless I've got a really good narrative/compositional reason, and so ended up with these.
The middle two pieces were definitely the hardest to get a handle on, but were still fun to attempt :)
As always, I'll be explaining and showcasing the process for these at the end of month video. Thank you so much as always for the support, and please look forward to even more art this year!

No actually, with this particular representation of jade I decided to go over the top (by quite a lot), and make it super green, and transparent whenever convenient. It's just a layering of 3 concepts: It's a torus shaped object, it's reflective, and it's transparent especially in front of strong light. I think real jade wouldn't actually have been able to create the intended color accent as effectively!

2023-01-20 06:07:08 +0000 UTCLove the set! Tells so much story! I have a question, do you own jade bracelet or similar translucent object? Depending on the objects, i find it hard to apply a different light when there's no reference with lighting similar to the painting i do. Although the fundamentals can be applied, i always find it look awkward when i do not have a proper reference with the right lighting setting. Did you do studies of the material beforehand? (when you first painted it on previous pieces)
