About potions
Added 2024-11-06 11:56:40 +0000 UTCHey friends!

I hope you are having a great week!
Today I come with a question about potions!
So far I have set that potions cannot be used in combat, this was mostly because to me it was always kinda silly seeing people just randomly pop a potion in the middle of a fight. (Have you tried drinking something fast? or even in the middle of any activity, even less combat)
But this is a game, so here I am asking your opinions on this. So here are my three options
Option 1: No potions in combat! (as it currently is)
Option 2: Potions on combat, but they reduce your turn meter by 50.
Option 3: Potions on combat, they reduce your turn meter by 50, and there is a limit or cooldown (like maximum 5 potions on a combat)

That’s it, that is just the question today.
While I always love to give player more options, I don’t want the game to be trivialized just by popping 500 potions per combat, as it can be done in some other games.
So yeah, just a random question!
You still won’t be able to use potions if you are gagged!
I will be back next week with this month’s update!
Cheers!

It is a single player game. It does not need to be realistic.

I mean, we've got magic and have you ever tried to get out of an armbinder? Or apply it to someone who doesn't want that? So I wouldn't take it too far with realism. If you don't like the drinking part you could also change them to some vitamin pill or dextrose drops, which are quick to swallow. But to drink a 500ml bottle in 2 seconds is still in the realm of possibilities: https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/97879-fastest-time-to-drink-500-ml-water I think for normal difficulty battles you should let people drink as much as they want. Maybe balance it out by making potions less common, so even without limits you barely manage to carry more then four or five around. Or dampen the effect with each potion. For realtime battles it would be nice if drinking a potion consumes some time and HP replenish slowy only as you drink. If the enemy attacks you - too bad, that potion bottle will probably get knocked off your hand and spill its remaining content over the floor.

2024-11-06 17:10:28 +0000 UTCI like Xander_&_Yalnif's concern and Tom Nook's suggestion. Maybe using a potion in a fight can have a cool-down period like you've assigned to the enemy's Restraining Maneuvers. I think you said that limit was one per 70 seconds, which seems to me to be too much as it ends up canceling enemy actions so they just sit there. (That's beside the point, though.) I like the idea of the tension when holding out for another potion only to have the enemy slap a gag on a character before it can be consumed. That happened to me a number of times in Solas City Heroes.

2024-11-06 16:15:26 +0000 UTCPotions w/limits seems odd 'cause like, what exactly is there to stop your character from just having more than X potions per battle? Something to think about. Maybe it's due to limited space, or some kind of saturation or overdose
