Chapter 13 of No Joy in Command is out for Squires!

Oh look, some aftermath, and the die is cast. The chapter is not too long, not too short, and probably not that exciting, but we can't have constant excitement and escalation. I also wanted to sort of skip ahead, but I realised a lot of things have to be shown. I suppose. Let me know what you think.

You can read the previous chapters in the collection!

Mmmm. Tasty

Rhett Sellers

„He shook his head vigorously, deciding against it. Fame and glory were fleeting and not something Jon was interested in, more so when it would involve the scrutiny a dragonslayer would probably come under during the Dance. He proved himself last night, and the only one who needed to know would not tell others… For some reason, his mind was filled with fiery draconic amusement." Well, you are not the only one, Vermithor! Alyn and Silver Denys. These *seem* to be more loyal than original dragonseeds, but we shall see. I eagerly await the next chapter!

... maybe the heart tree will have a dragon face if he plants it next to cannibal's skull?

Jon “Achilles” Stark incoming! Vermathor clearly won’t let Silverwing be claimed by anyone he doesn’t deem to be Jon’s potential future mate!

Maniac000

Methinks Silverwing is being kept for someone.

Love this story so much. Go in whatever direction you want, just have fun with it! Been with you since the earliest bits of The Dragonwolf and it’s awesome to watch you grow as a writer. I’m following about 30 different stories right now and yours is my favorite by far. Your update is always the highlight of my week. Keep at it!

Excellent filler chapter. Liked how Jon is feeling the aftereffects of a magic ritual he started. And later how he is going through the changes to his body while unconscious(?)*. A bit light on how a feat such as he performed would be seen and how it would shake up Westeros. He is the first person since before Valyria (according to the fic) to slay a dragon single-handed after all. The Dance goes on as the focus stays on Jon and Dragontone I also liked. Anticipating Jon waking up and how and if his bond to Vermithor changes. And will Rhaena finally claim Silverwing? ( dun dun duuun) B+. B is the highest grade range for filler chapters, and a + because it's a good one. *Or maybe warging...

Think less Achilles and more Siegfried, Germanic knight that slew the Evil Dragon Fafnir, performed the same ritual this Jon did, and became an invulnerable warrior. The only reason Siegfried was able to be harmed is because a leaf fell on his body when he bathed in dragon blood, leaving that part still mortal. Jonny boy here was fully soaked in the stuff, only magic weapons should have any kind of effect on him (basing this off of legends/D&D). Also, Skyfall has definitely received an upgrade, possibly a twist on how Azor Ahai made Lightbringer by planting the sword in his wife's heart, could be a mistranslation (i.e. Martin didn't plan out that part of his books well) and instead the Last Hero plunged his sword into his dragon's heart, granting it the power to end the Night's King.

Just waiting for Melody or Kinvara to show up now.

Just have to say that I really liked Jace in this chapter

Jon being out makes sense. Broom is a bro. Will be interesting to see if there's anything more to the Clawmen seeing as historically they were Visenya's men first and there were a few comments earlier that Jon leans more towards her line than others. I initially thought Jon would end up as the consort to the eventual Lady of Driftmark but if Alyn has Sheepstealer then maybe he's going to end up in the Whispers with a bunch of dragon devoted firstmen. Solid chapter and it's always interesting to see how the ripples go in these sorts of stories. Be curious to see what the would be Queen thinks of her half brother the Dragonslayer though.

I love it. There are a few phrases that I found odd. But nothing that detracts from the story

Pearl of the Orient

Please don’t derail canon beyond the actions Jon takes and their ripples. If it’s a clear cause/effect, cool, but otherwise I really don’t enjoy that. Aftermath chapters aren’t often the most exciting, but they are fun and necessary. Can’t wait for Jon to wake up. Plant the cutting in Cannibals head, let it feed on dragon blood.

Excellent chapter. It makes sense that Jon would be out of commission for awhile if his body is going through some mutation. Jon the Dragonslayer’s story has traveled the Seven Kingdoms. The Clawmen will be patting themselves on the back for sending two of their own to serve as squires. The pride and reputation of both the Starks and the Targaryens will soar, as their kin has done what no one has done since the age of legends. Some, like Ser Criston Cole, might think they can duplicate the feat. Killing Cannibal has cemented Jon as Viserys’ son in Dameon’s mind. Probably others. Other people have to notice Vermithor habitually flying over Jon’s house and be able to connect the dots. I feel bad for the maester. In a lot of ways he was right, purge Jon and get the toxins out of his system. Clean blades in boiling water/vinegar. He actually was more or less on the right track, only to be thwarted by magic. Jon getting a heart tree will only cement his reputation as a true Stark. His smallfolk [and despite them not being his under the law, they are his as a matter of fact] may be considering a conversion. After all, he’s taking care of them [or Aethan is] while the lords and Septons are not. I wouldn’t be surprised if Ashcove doesn’t transform into something of a manor house. I’m surprised that Rhaena hasn’t done the math and come to realize that her chance of a dragon is Silverwing, at least by process of elimination. Copy Nettles plan, and bribe Vermithor/Silverwing with sheep, goats, etc.. Broome is a solid dude. As is Aethan. Jon is putting together quite a team.

Interesting update, so Jon Stark now has the Curse of Achilles sans the ankle? Daemon taking Jon’s shenanigans in stride is both odd and totally in character if you really think about it. I also find it really funny to see how everyone just accepts the fact that Jon is Viserys’ bastard lmao.
