Meredith was 100% in the wrong. She had no right to deny his family the opportunity to say goodbye to their son and brother. She can feel guilty all she wants but honestly she deserves to. It was selfish and unforgivable. Just because you married someone does not give you the right to deny a parent the right to say goodbye to their child, and she did that. Derek was close with his mom and because of Meredith she is going to have to live with the fact that the child she brought into this world left it without her even having the chance to say goodbye.

Helen Moore

Yes I too am over the carousel thing. And Richard and Catherine are annoying me. But, yay Alex and Meredith! Besties!

Karen McQueeney

I am fully on your side. It's a complicated situation and one where both people are allowed to feel upset. Meredith was barely holding it together and she had her kids with her. She's not close with Derek's family. Her and Amelia are just getting to know each other but are not close. They wouldn't be on her mind. It's easy to judge someone's actions when you aren't the one feeling the pain. Plus, if Amelia was there she would be running all around that hospital, screaming and making it all about her like she always does. That would have helped no one. She should have been able to say goodbye and she's valid in her grief, but Meredith did the best she could at that moment. It's not a popular opinion among Grey's fans, but it's one I stick by.

Lauren

There aint been one Avery I like on this show. The grandaddy, momma and son all think they're opinion is law. I get Jacksons a surgeon and all but sir you mostly deal in cosmetic surgery stay in your lane as a surgeon and let the trauma and Pediatric surgeon handle the trauma surgery on the kid. And, I'm not always Amelia's biggest fan, but dam if she aint right. I get Meredith isnt big on extended family but Derek LOVED being a brother (at least thats what he was always saying cause we aint see his family in forever...lmao) and would of wanted them to have the chance to say goodbye.

Felix Cabrera

She was still **unintentionally** wrong for that.

Hannah

Nah, if my sister-in-law unplugged my brother without letting me, our parents, or anyone else in the family know beforehand… I get Meredith wanted to do that alone but she wasn’t the only person who loved Derek. Yes it was her call to unplug him and it was the right call, but it wasn’t right to not let anyone know until it was over and she was back in town. In real life, there’d be a lot more people pissed than just Amelia. That being said, I do feel for Meredith and I know that the most devastating thing possible happened to her. Like Amelia told her several episodes ago, “you don’t know what that does to a person.” Meredith wasn’t thinking clearly so I do give her grace for that. She was still so wrong for that

Hannah

Stephanie probably thought DeLuca was too hot to be an intern. Well at least that’s what I was thinking 😂

Bradey Bononcini

I don't think that's cold saying that she wasn't on Mer's concerns because that's just stating facts and I do get that Mer didn't think of it then. But I also believe Amelia's feelings are valid (especially the part where she didn't get to say goodbye). On another note I was waiting for that last scene the whole episode because I FREAKING LOVE that badass moment with Kepner tbh. I'm so happy you finally got to watch this ! Can't wait for you to react to the finale ! (And yes Mer and Alex friendship is so precious)

Tbh I am mad at the writing. They could have not done the Ellis-Runaway-Parallel that easily if the Shepherds&Co would have shown up and it seems that that was the priority. They probably wanted it as shocking as possible and with potential for more drama. Job done. I think Derek would have wanted his family/Amelia to be able to say goodbye (said sth along those lines in season 1 – to bring in another perspective) and i think that could have also been a worthy goodbye. Amelia and Meredith's reasons are both valid and comprehensible and there simply is no "right" side. I really disliked how this was handled, it wasn't needed buuut it is a drama show with their own drama behind the scenes so at least it wasn't worse... and the actresses delivered amazing performances so there is also that.

Jinny

No I agree. When a sudden death happens like that, you definitely go on an autopilot. And she had to deal with his death but also the only other thing she was really mentioning was about her children. which anyone who has a kid or is a guardian or whatever, knows that’s apart of the autopilot as well. And I can’t fault Meredith for that because she was in a TERRIBLE predicament. But I can also understand Amelia’s pov too 💔 What I love about this show is there’s so many realistic conflicts, where a lot of the time you don’t know who to side with or you lean towards one side but understand them all.

Serenity La’sandra

Idk about Jackson but the April moment.. I’d be like.. that’s hot. I’d be like let’s go to the on call room after this. All those other thoughts be gone 🤣

Serenity La’sandra

Love this April moment!

Serenity La’sandra

yeah it’s very complicated because like you said at the end, Amelia was probably the last thing on Meredith’s mind when she got to the hospital. she’s losing her husband, father of her children; she’s going through hell. understandable. but my god my heart breaks for Amelia. i understand her. when it comes down to it, she didn’t get a chance to say goodbye to her brother because of Meredith. and i think Meredith knows she kinda screwed the pooch there, when we saw her breakdown and sob the most we’ve seen her do since his death. i think hindsight is 20/20 and seeing the pain she put Amelia in hurt her to see, but what’s done is done you can’t really fault someone for how they grieve. i hope they can reconcile though before this like resentment simmers

Alicia Cue

Rewatching the show multiple times made me love Amelia and Meredith’s conflict because in the earlier seasons Derek told Meredith if he was in that situation he would want to be surrounded by his sisters before they pulled the plug. So I can understand both perspectives

Emmanuel Davies

I agree Amelia couldn’t do anything. But Meredith had HOURS before they can legally declare him brain dead “you’ve waited the requisite amount of hours to legally call it” I get she was in shock and had her kids but Derek TOLD HER if anything ever happened to him he would want his sisters there. He was closest with Amelia. And she was the closest (vicinity wise) to Dillard Medical and she just didn’t call his family???? At all??? Not even a text or to have the hospital call and notify them if she couldn’t handle that call? Meredith is VERY selfish in her grief of Derek when it comes to Amelia it seems. Like you didn’t think his sister(s) would be upset? Or hurt? I don’t agree with Meredith in this situation other than Amelia couldn’t have saved him. She still had the right to say goodbye…

dorifryer

I definitely get Amelia. I can't imagine my brother being on life support and his partner not calling me or my mom to say goodbye. But Meredith doesn't have much experience with family dynamics. So I can see why it doesn't cross her mind.

Crystal

I forgot how epic the ending felt with Kepner on the tow truck giving her little speech

Matty Ryan

I can see both sides cause if it was my brother I’d wanna say goodbye but if I was my partner I wouldn’t be able to rationalize that either. They both are right and they should just lean on each other.

Ariel

I feel Amelia with not being able to say goodbye, but it was a difficult situation, and Mer was obviously in shock. And Kepner is badass!! Love her.

ingrid vedeld

Acting on point for Mer and Amelia talking about saying goodbye to Derek! Like, I felt their emotions through the screen. That scene was etched into my memory since it first aired and still cried watching it now. Definitely heartbreaking and difficult for both :(

Cepheus

Jackson either help or shut up. If you’re not being of use and are only doubting everything you need to leave. Both Avery’s are out of line the episode.

Domo

The Meredith and Amelia situation is sooo complicated because I can completely see where they are both coming from. Meredith was under a lot of stress and grief with Derek dying. As we can see, she wasn’t concerned with anything outside the hospital. She also grew up with very little family and the way her mother was, I don’t think contacting friends/family comes naturally to her. As for Amelia, it is completely understandable for her to want to say goodbye to her own brother. Amelia wouldn’t have been able to take care of Derek either way because he’s a loved one. Other than that, both situations are so complicated, and in a way, I feel that they are both in the right. Also, I freaking love April Kepner 🫶
