7 Days To Air - The Making of No [P]rivacy for 2B

Audios, as I do them, require a lot of pre-planning, scheduling, money, and logistics. An idea needs to be possible to do with available talent within a reasonable timeframe for myself, the VAs, and the thumbnail artists. But what I believed was a comfortable stockpile of projects turned out to not be nearly enough an exclusive each week. I had a lot of pending works, MacStar and AkujiSaito have wait times that can range from 1 to 3 weeks weeks, and it was Saturday of the upload week... Fuck.

With McDonald's Mom uploaded, and three scripts to choose from, I had a lot of options, and a lot to consider:

• LHeartLewd turns her lines in in under 24 hours. I could have her do Hatsune Miku, or 2B.

• MacStar and AkujiSaito offer rush fees of +50% of the audio's final cost. Rushing Harley Quinn was not an option. Too many lines and it would be on the commissioner's dime. Unacceptable. With MacStar as Luka, I could have the lines rushed at my own expense, or I could rush both Jackass and Operator 6O at a lower overall price (still at my own expense).

• MoonsObsession can complete a thumbnail in 7 days or less, in comparison to Pal who needs around two weeks.

So it was decided. The ONLY possible commission I could complete on time was No [P]rivacy for 2B.

SUNDAY - 2/9/25

At 1:35 AM on Sunday, I messaged LHeartLewd with a script. She had never voiced 2B before, but I knew she could pull it off. She gave me a sample to approve of, and both I and the commissioner liked it. Now all I had to do was wait for vocals.

MONDAY - 2/10/25

The process of finding new VAs is an embarrassing one. It requires searching twitter for working NSFW actresses, scouring their .card sites or comm sheets and hoping not to see "Won't Do: Scat" on them. On the off chance they DON'T have it listed, they sure as shit do after I've reached out to them. Now I had to do it for male VAs. While I knew RepulsiveProto was willing to voice this kind of stuff, I genuinely could NOT ask my friend to pretend to be a horny little beta cuck... I just did not have it in me. So, I had to get creative. I knew of a fellow content creator, who mostly focuses on male furry stuff and looked through his page as I knew he had worked with VAs in the past. I saw Charizard's ass cheeks on full display. I saw a bunch of anime furries I'd never even heard of with their red rockets out. It was harrowing. But eventually, I did see a link to a voice actor willing to do scat by the name of Chocomoth. I contacted him at 10:41 AM, heard back at 12:45, but was unable to answer until 6:30... This was a brutal bit of time loss for me in theory, but luckily, LHeartVoiceOver got me the 2B lines at 5:53 PM. 3 hours later, Chocomoth turned in his lines as 9S, recorded on the spot and paid for near immediately. I got lucky he liked the script and was ready to record. It was starting to look like I might actually pull it off.

TUESDAY - 2/11/25

After sending the script and rushing the next day, AkujiSaito sent in their lines as Operator 6O. The commissioner covered the base cost while I covered the rush fee. MacStar offered me either a +50% rush fee in 24 hours, or +25% for 3 days or less. It would be tight, but Jackass had fewer lines and I needed to save what I could, so I hoped she could get them to me early.

WEDNESDAY - 2/12/25

I initially planed to voice Pod 042 myself using voice modulation... but my voice is higher pitched than Pod 042. I would have to find a new male VA for that too (as a rule of thumb I only use AI as a tool, not a replacement for VAs. Money saved is nice but the continued success of a fellow human being is nicer). Thanks to a fellow content creator who mostly focuses on male stuff by the name of DiabolikFetish, I got a recommendation within the day, but didn't hear from them.

So, it's mid-week, I have three voices in, and the script is ten pages long. I've seen worse odds in my professional life, but I was starting to sweat.

THURSDAY 2/13/25

The Pod 042 VA gets back to me... at 1:40 AM. What better time to conduct business? Luckily, he's a NieR:Automata fan and has the register I need. I go to bed, and when I wake up, I got the lines at 5:15 AM. The best part of waking up is Pod 042 vocals in your cup.

So I recreate the Pod 042 voice effect in Audition by ear. I used an FFT filter with the low and high ranges cut out to give it a washed out, computerized sound, pitch shifted down by -1 semitones and -50 cents, then added a minimal delay to the vocals. Operator 6O used a lighter FFT cut-off and pink noise generation to create static on the call).

Roughly two days before upload you start to think to yourself, "this is the worst one so far. This is absolutely my worst audio and it's not even close." This happens every time. And every time I have to muscle through developing ulcers, fighting my own warped thinking even though you're convinced every line read is terrible, and I should have directed the VAs better, and that I am wasting my time and life and money away on stupid porn. But this time, I had the added stress of it being mostly incomplete. I'd need a miracle to get this done...

SATURDAY 2/15/25

No [P]rivacy for 2B goes up after two feverish days of editing. The art came in around 5:56 PM, more than enough time for the preview and thumbnail.

When you work with so many people, and there is so many moving parts, you need to keep a cool head at all times, remain empathetic to everyone involved, and remember you're not the most important person on anyone's clock but yourself. Other than paying rush fees, I had to control my anxiety and worry that lines would not come in on time and trust everyone I worked with. They all came through in the end, and I believe the audio turned out just fine. I generally try not to have a strong opinion of any of my audios, since at the end of the day unless it is a self-indulgent piece or a major disappointment, it's not really about me, is it? I could tell you which audios I was proud of, and which I was disappointed in. But despite making for one of the most hectic weeks so far, the end-product didn't really mean as much to me as the process of getting it done. No [P]rivacy for 2B will stand out to me not because of the end result, but because it had one of the most stressful, anomalous, and strangely invigorating production cycles of anything I've ever made.
