The Black-Stockinged Nun Is Actually a Boy?! [25]

“What’s wrong? Not a fan?” his roommate asked, surprised by Li Wei’s muted reaction.

Li Wei shook his head, then deftly pulled a cup of instant noodles and seasoning from under his desk, tossing them into his bowl. “I’m skipping evening study tonight. Tell them for me.”

“Tonight’s study session doesn’t even have a teacher—do you really need to skip?” His roommate scratched his head. “Don’t tell me you’re planning another all-nighter.”

“Yeah.” Li Wei poured boiling water into the noodles, then snapped his fingers.

At the sound, the bowl's lid closed automatically.

“My dad said it's 2050 already, yet outside of practical applications, tech hasn’t improved much beyond the 2020s,” Li Wei complained quietly. “Feels like humanity’s stuck in some Three-Body Problem trap.”

“Alright, alright, I get it. Just let me copy your math homework the day after tomorrow,” his roommate said, shrugging and heading toward the door.

“Remember to bring me some late-night snacks!” Li Wei called after him.

His roommate rolled his eyes. “Call me Daddy first. And treat me to dinner tomorrow.”

“Sure thing, Daddy,” Li Wei replied without hesitation. He slipped the helmet back on. He’d first log in for a few minutes to sort his inventory, especially the [Soul Sword] he’d acquired.

That violet-flamed [Black Iron Sword] is so damn cool. Those jealous looks from other players are the best feeling ever!

If he didn't show it off, how would anyone know he was among the top-tier players?

"Phew…"

Helen leaned against the carriage, breathing heavily from exhaustion.

Honestly, dissecting monsters was grueling labor, especially for a spellcaster like herself. It was definitely beyond her usual skill set.

Thankfully, Evelia, being a hybrid assassin adept at both magic and physical combat, handled dissection with ease. Whether professional or not, her efficiency was unmatched.

"All done," Evelia said calmly, holding three small Seeds out toward Helen. "One from a siren and two from the harpies."

Seeing them, Helen immediately forgot her fatigue and eagerly accepted the precious items.

A violet-red triangular crystal, a blue square stone, and a dark sphere.

Though Helen had been an ordinary player in her previous life, she knew enough to identify these transcendent [Seeds]: [Tier-2 Temptress], [Tier-2 Witch], and… [Tier-1 Death Knight]!

"I was already mentally prepared to attempt a breakthrough without any [Seeds]. But this—this is an unexpected windfall!" Helen sighed in relief, quickly assessing the new situation.

She could attempt a breakthrough without a [Seed], but the success rate would be painfully low, with risks of severe injury or reverting her newly sprouted [Seed] back to its original dormant state.

It was simply too risky.

Consuming a [Seed] was always the optimal choice for advancement.

"Are you going to attempt a breakthrough now?" Evelia asked coolly. "I can guard the area for you."

Helen hesitated, carefully weighing her options.

In a game, experimenting with new character builds was as easy as creating a new account. But this was reality—she had to choose her class progression carefully.

Continuing as a [Temptress] would significantly impact her future…

Forget it. I need to resolve the current problem first. The cruelty of the Ares family surged in Helen’s mind, pressing her to act immediately.

Their current strength paled compared to an Imperial noble family like Ares. Their only advantage now was secrecy.

They’d already marked her; she didn't have the luxury of slowly plotting out her ideal future class. At this moment, relying on the [Temptress’] powerful support skills was essential, especially when it could significantly bolster her team's combat power.

Besides, Helen reasoned inwardly, I don’t have to dual-class as a [Nun] right now. The [Saintess] path will remain available later—I'm not necessarily doomed to become a [Bridal Saintess].

The [Nun] class had a branch called [Saintess], which, when paired with a [Temptress], formed an extremely powerful combination—similar to a Warlock-Paladin build from Baldur's Gate—almost broken in effectiveness.

Yet its complicated mechanics and embarrassing implications led many elite players to avoid it. Powerful combat buffs coupled with extremely seductive outfits gave it a somewhat scandalous reputation, mockingly dubbed by players as [Bridal Saintess].

"Have you decided?" Evelia asked again, noting Helen’s firming expression with curiosity.

Helen nodded, pocketing the [Witch Seed] safely away, swallowing the [Tier-2 Temptress Seed] immediately. Then, she handed the [Death Knight Seed] to Evelia.

Evelia tilted her head slightly, a rare flicker of confusion passing across her usually serene expression.

"Aren’t we friends? You gave me candy, so now I’m giving you a [Seed]," Helen said sweetly.

[Death Knights] are mortal enemies of the Church’s Paladins. In my hands, this [Seed] would go to waste. Better to earn some goodwill from the vampires.

Behind her pure and angelic smile, Helen’s thoughts were quite calculating.

A good con artist must not only charm their targets but also know how to invest a bit to catch bigger prey!

"Father, I’m home."

Leo walked into the lavish hall of the family villa on the city outskirts. At its center stood an ornate coffin inscribed with his father’s name.

"As soon as I complete the offering to the Lords of the Void, you'll be able to return and stay by my side forever," Leo spoke passionately. "We’ve already gathered hearts, ears, tongues, and noses from the city’s maidens, performing rituals at each crime scene. All that remains is the final step."

"Once we capture that nun and offer her up whole, the Lords of the Void will be pleased, and our family will finally reunite!" Leo grew increasingly manic as he spoke, tears streaming from his eyes, gazing lovingly at his father's corpse inside the coffin.

Watching silently from afar, the butler sighed softly at the empty coffin before him.

"Young master, everyone from our family—including servants—has assembled at the manor. Shall we heighten security tonight?"

At the butler’s voice, Leo snapped back to reality, regaining composure. Turning calmly to the butler kneeling before him, he said, "Continue as planned. Evelia might know, but the vampire girl can't touch us now. As soon as public suspicion fully turns against them, we'll quietly complete the sacrifice."

"Victory is within reach; we cannot afford mistakes. Guard against any desperate counterattack from the vampires."

Though he said this, Leo had already begun inwardly celebrating.

Right now, the vampires wouldn't dare strike openly. Evelia was their only threat, and even if she attacked, he was confident they could crush her immediately.

This current caution was merely insurance against her desperation. He could comfortably await victory now.

"Usually, victory demands everything you have—but this time, I’ve already crossed the threshold."

Leo spread his arms wide, eyes closed, savoring the taste of imminent success.

BOOM!

Suddenly, an explosion echoed from the estate’s front gates, followed by a deafening silence.

A silence louder than thunder.

"Who dares?!" Leo shouted furiously.
