October: Collaboration with 3D artists

Hello again!

Quick update on core mods: We're currently awaiting a few things before wide scale version bumps can be made. With the Halloween update out of the way, we're now waiting on some improved modding tools to be finalized. Some community members are investigating modifications to how we "hook" into the game's functions, giving modders much more control over when/how their code is run. Exciting stuff, I know.


In other news, I'm currently working with a few members of the Qosmetics community on some projects! The attached image is a 3D environment designed by the (awesome) Wolfy for a mod that we're working on together. As always, he did an amazing job with the sprite-work and texture mapping! We're planning to work on this as a long-term project, so we might not be able to share certain details until things have been finalized.


In my last post, we discussed using the Billie environment's water displacement effects on obstacles. While this technique could be a feasible low-quality alternative to distortion in a future mod, Wolfy suggested using a similar effect inside a custom qwall.

Fast-forward a few days later and we've got a working prototype! Fashioned from a heavily-modified cubemap shader, we're looking to release these walls to the Qosmetics discord in the coming days.


That's about it for now! There are few other projects which I'd love to share, though aren't yet ready for a public prototype. I'll continue posting updates here should anything new crop up.
