Thank you so much Storm for reading Oh Captain, my Captain. I never thought you’d choose one of my recommendations. Whitman’s poem was made famous again by the 1989 film Dead Poets Society staring Robin Williams and a very young Ethan Hawke. Williams received his second Oscar nomination for Best Actor for Dead Poets Society. Walt Whitman wrote the poem in 1865 and it was a memorial to President Abraham Lincoln after the assassination. The Captain being Lincoln, the ship being the United States, and the storm that the ship survived was the American Civil War. Whitman idolized Lincoln although he never got to meet the President personally. This poem really means a lot to me, since I teach US History to middle school students and I always read the Whitman poem to my students when we finish the unit on the American Civil War. It’s dark, it’s sad, it’s full of melancholy. But your reading was so beautiful. It brought a tear to my eye. Since Halloween is my birthday, my family makes a big deal about it. I enjoy costuming up as some lesser know Sith Lord for the students in my classroom. I have a whole Star Wars theme in my classroom. I’ll chaperone the middle school Halloween dance, my youngest is a student at my school. Then while my kids and my wife are out trick-or-treat through the neighborhood, I’ll hand out to all the trick-or-treaters. We get a lot of people from outside the neighborhood bring their kids so they can have a safe place to trick-or-treat. Mind if I ask you a question? You mentioned Samhain. Have you ever attended the Samhain festivals in Ireland? Since Halloween is my birthday I’d love to be in Ireland for that one. I’m sorry this is so long. But I needed a break from grading papers and your poetry reading inspired me, so I have to comment and say thank you. I’m also glad to hear you’re making your art as your full time job. It’s the best feeling in the world when your job is to do what you love most. Don’t forget to check out Fishers in the City next time you’re in Edinburgh. Happy Halloween! Can’t wait to hear the Succubus story. Happy Samhain 🎃

Pas de trouble pour moi avec le titre Québécois... c’t’une langue que je jase ben... Thank you for indulging my curiosity... And don't apologize for rambling—it's always nice to share something you love with someone else. I regret that the members of the community don't exchange their ramblings more often with each other, given that this is a relatively safe space (or at least I hope so).

Nemo Zilch

After paying a visit to my dad I finally remembered what it was thanks to him (I was truly going insane) It’s ‘Vieux Thomas et la petite fée” I’m sorry I don’t know what it’s called in English but it must be smth along the lines of Old Thomas and the Little Fairy It’s Québécois and it’s about opening our hearts to people who needs it, solitude and it’s consequences and the joy of life We couldn’t find it anymore, sadly but I’ll try to order it online, I’ll most likely cry re-reading it again but it’ll be good tears LMAO Anyways sorry for rambling 😅

Juni

"The Raven" oddly soothing with the dark undertone I'd hope for. Thank you Storm for the poetry read. This helped me get through some paper work I was dragging my feet on today. Congrats to Luna on winning the poll, looking forward to listening to the audio.

anubis_phoenix181

Thanks for bringing that up. There have been many documented instances of these crow funerals. It's sweet to see that animals display complex and intimate behaviors similar to humans.

User_Unknown

@User_Unkown & @Storm Crows are fascinating creatures indeed, and “fascinating” doesn’t even do them justice, in my opinion. I remember an episode of the podcast Ars Moriendi (a great podcast from Quebec—perfect for those days when you find yourself feeling too cheerful) where the narrator describes witnessing what he called a “crow funeral.” He saw ravens gathered in a circle around the body of one of their own, vocalising loudly. Each individual took turns approaching the corpse and performed a motion that resembled shaking it, as if trying to wake it up. The narrator swears this story is true, even though he’s never met anyone who seems to take him seriously. Maybe I wouldn’t have believed it either, but I witnessed something remarkably similar one morning on my way to work. Below a tree, I didn’t see a raven but a dead magpie (magpies being part of the crow family as well). A circle of magpies had gathered around the body, cawing loudly. One by one, they moved towards the corpse, performing what seemed like the very same ritual the narrator described—trying to rouse it back to life. This happened years before I ever listened to that podcast episode. I had never heard of such behaviour before, and I was genuinely shocked when I heard him recount what could have been my very own story.

Nemo Zilch

@User_Unknown Well, you know, I believe, this time, it’s a losing battle. Nonetheless, as they say, it ain’t over till it’s over. Be safe.

Nemo Zilch

Without doubt.

User_Unknown

Noted. I was just referencing the how "The Raven" would end its stanzas. It's okay; I have been feeling the same about myself as well. This past month has been a drag. I hope you take care as well and return to your full efficiency.

User_Unknown

@User_Unknown Hey there, I realise now that maybe there wasn’t any hint to pick up on… Please don’t worry about my message. Honestly, I have to admit that I'm not exactly operating at peak efficiency these days. No offense meant or taken—I hope you won't take any either. Take care, friend.

Nemo Zilch

Cuddle time with her voice as a bed time story, no matter what you read out 🥰

Sikanda

I like that positive spin!

Angel

Haha I'm glad it brought back a happy memory!

Angel

Oh yes! I remember now - about ravens. Very cool. They are fascinating indeed 🖤

Angel

I loved your poem reading, and can’t wait to see more like it

Chase

I must admit, your words have truly piqued my curiosity... If you don’t mind me asking, what’s the name or title of the tale you were referring to?

Nemo Zilch

Loved your reading of O Captain. As someone who grew up in the land of Lincoln it's a common favorite poem. I like to put a positive spin to it. That despite Lincolns assassination, his legacy still prevailed and his accomplishments persisted. The Captain may be dead but the ship still found port.

Ian Kimmitt

Thank you. 🤗

Luna

Thanks for another great ASMR Storm. Love every single one of them

Raul Zavala

@User_Unknown Hint taken.

Nemo Zilch

Congrats on the win luna you idea isn't silly it was the best idea in the whole poll. Indeed this October will be cozy I believe we all marked the days for each audio this month can't wait to hear your idea.

Bugiisan

Glad to hear that atleast the sweet yanderes are kind of a relatively safe. My idea might not have won but they again not everyone like the some thing but no matter I am still hyped to hear Luna idea it was really good one and the best of all the ideas you got submitted.

Bugiisan

Awaaaa that was so relaxiiiiing I don’t have much insightful comments about poems bc I find myself getting lost in them but I enjoy listening to pretty words and this was very fun to listen to and I’m glad there’s gonna be another one Also it like unlocked a ooold memory about this one book/tale I used to be obsessed with as a kid and that brought back cute memories BUT I CAN’T FIND IT ANYMORE and I’m going insane 😭 Anyyyways, wishing everyone an happy October!!! Best month 🎃👻 <3 take care

Juni

I think she was refering to the one where she force feeds us. Either way, it's indeed a shame Storm can't capitalize on something she loves doing. Youtube can be a glitch sometimes.

User_Unknown

Congratulations! Your idea was quite comforting, and I personally can't wait to hear it.

User_Unknown

That sounds awesome! Good luck with it!

User_Unknown

"Nevermore."

User_Unknown

These poems were truly brought to life by your performance, Storm. Well done! I especially appreciate your commentary at the end of them. It was a nice personal touch, and I resonated with what you said about death. Do you have any favorite poems/poets you'd like to share for future audios? In regard to what you said about ravens, I always saw them as misunderstood. My feelings are the same for crows. From what I've read, both acquired this reputation from the medieval era, as they would often accompany soldiers into battle before deadly skirmishes, thus branding them as harbingers of death. In reality, they were only looking for food and learned that the movement of large people would eventually lead to bodies to scavenge. Grim but opportunistic. It's a shame these superstitions overshadow their more gentile side. They are remarkably intelligent creatures. Both are capable of using tools; ravens can mimic human speech; and the symbiotic relationships they have with wolves is nothing short of adorable, wherein they share food with wolves and play with their pups. For these reasons, I always feel honored seeing corvids whether they flock in murders or unkindnesses. Anyway, pardon my raving. I hope you enjoy October as well. Thanks as always.

User_Unknown

You read Oh Captain, my Captain! Thank you so much. I knew that you would make that very sad poem sound so beautiful. Thank you Storm.

Tazmn

At the time of the poll, Luna felt that her idea might not have been worth sharing. I believe this serves as an important reminder for all of us: as long as they are respectful, every idea is valuable and worth to be expressed and received with respect. Respect, in my view, also includes playfulness and constructive criticism as they can foster healthy emulation and help the community grow together, nurturing even better ideas. Thank you, Luna, for your contribution and for inspiring this reflection. And a heartfelt thank you to Storm for the wonderful reading—impeccable as always—and for creating a space where we can come together creatively through the poll and the comments. As for now, I’m not quite sure how to wrap this up, but I trust someone in the community will find the perfect way to conclude.

Nemo Zilch

Ahhh! I love being read poems! Thanks for another great work, Storm!

💖😊💖

Angel

This poem reading might just inspire me to give ASMRing a good college try actually.

Rose Reaper

Can't wait to see it when you do!

Luna Rainfell

Oh my! For a few seconds, I forgot my own name. 😅 I’m glad you all liked my silly idea. Honestly, I feel honored, thank you! I’m going to mark the important days in the calendar; this October will be very cozy. 🍂 The divine poems, your angelic voice, a soft blanket, and a cup of hot chocolate—sweet heavens, now this is the life! It’s so comforting and nostalgic. I feel like a little kid again, eagerly waiting to hear my favorite poem before I go to bed. For me, gloominess is the most relaxing feeling. It’s a little dark, yes, but the calm and silence are the best moments to put your thoughts in order and reconnect with yourself. I know I’m repeating myself, but I want to thank you, Storm, for all the work you do for us. Words are not enough to show how grateful we are; you help so much and bring us so much joy. 🤍

Luna

I think the “sweet yandere” audios are relatively safe, so your idea was fine 😉

Angel

Thank you Haru! 🫶🏻 I’m glad you enjoyed 🥹

Angel

Awwww sorry Luna! 🥺 I would have said “Luna Rainfell” to distinguish you. I did like the elf ranger idea though 🩷 I actually had a similar idea a while ago, a mythical creature, witch or something finding the listener in the woods and tending to their wounds. Maybe I’ll get around to finally doing that audio sometime!

Angel

That moment when you forget there's another commenter named Luna. Oh well. The poetry was nice!

Luna Rainfell

Congratulation Luna🥳 This was beautiful and relaxing to listen to ^-^ i had also tears of joy showing up while listening 😅♥️. I'm really looking forward to this October and more rambles, poem readings in the future bc this is nice ^-^. I would like to do something on Halloween but I don't have any time off and I have to work so I'll just scare and annoy my colleague during my night shift xD

Haru

Aw hell yeah!

Rose Reaper

Congrats Luca on the winning, her Idea was really amazing and can't wait to hear it. I knew that my idea of the yandere won't win due to the statements you have mentioned I should have given a different idea I apologize for it was silly from me. Thank you for reading all the poems, and I can't wait to hear all the spooky audios you have planned for us during this month. Thank you once again for all the hard work you do for us you are the best Storm.

Bugiisan

I'm very excited for the winning idea. I love the ambience of rain, wind and storms, and your mommy voice is fantastic, this'll be a treat! It's a shame to hear that you can't monetize the yandere videos. The one I think you're referring to [I think it's "yandere kidnapper finds out you're insecure"] is one of my all time favourite videos of yours!! The voice you did for the character was just sweet and innocent sounding enough to give a fantastic effect for the character, and the story that unfolded in that scene gave me so many butterflies in my stomach. It's truly unfortunate that it's a topic that's hard to post because of youtube rules etc.

Inkfeather

Thank you and all the contributors 🥰💖
