Much better now!

My friends, let me present 3 shades of OD! 😁

I decided to play with different tones considering the tank had several components mounted at different times.

For the tank, I used the same OD combo from AK RC, so dark OD and Faded OD, and then lightened it with Tamiya Dark Yellow.

For the water drum, I used the same AK combo, but lightened with Buff. I made it very pale as it came from an older tank (possibly M3 Stuart?)

And for the chimney stacks I used light grey for the highlights.

OD is a wonderful paint because it really faded into all these colors, so there’s plenty to choose from! The yellow highlight on the tank will also play nicely with the sand-colored camouflage on the turret. That’s the most intimidating part for now, as I’ll probably apply it with a brush just like on the real tank and try to post-shade it afterwards.

Also, the model is very glossy right now, so it’s hard to properly capture all the color variation 😊

Much better now! Much better now! Much better now! Much better now! Much better now! Much better now! Much better now!

I do like the tonal variations you have recreated here on the OD, Martin. It looks really, really good. It’s at a good point for weathering. I’m really enjoying your King Kong project 👍😎 Cheers 🍻

Indeed. That's why I'm always happier with a pale base coat, even if it's inaccurate. The washes always tone it down to a reasonable finish.

Night Shift

Very pale indeed, but wait until the pin washes are applied :) It'll all get balanced out.

Night Shift

Just the dark OD from AK as a shadow base coat, then OD Faded from AK as the "actual" color and mixed that with Dark Yellow, Buff, Light Grey from Tamiya for post-shading :)

Looks really good. This defiantly has a different look to it.

Beautiful Work Uncle ☺️

Bob

Very nice sir! The base shades are the hardest for me. All the washes and pigments change the base colors so much!

Bob Yack

Very nice!

Master am I allowed to say seems very pale ? Think I prefer your tried and trusted darker primer . Just saying

John Ratcliff

Looking good! Post shading OD is so much fun. Did you use AKs modulation set or craft your own this go?

RelentlesStorm

Noice!

Nicely done sir!
