Crazy German turret strikes again

My friends, I was able to find some bench time every day over the weekend and managed to assemble the unmanned Puma turret.

The most obvious thing to me was that it would've looked a little bland without some subtle steel texture - although in this case it's quite unrealistic. The real Puma is very smooth! But then again, texturing is fun, it's fun to paint over a textured surface, and it greatly improves the contrast between the individual components of the model. In the case of this model, it was also used to fill some tiny gaps which are cleverly placed, but in reality shouldn't be there. And if they actually are supposed to be there, we all know that a scribed panel line with some pin wash looks more pleasing than a "real" line.

I added a few extra details, but nothing serious. My main issue with these very modern subjects is that everything is just so high-tech and purpose-built. Nothing like "oh, they just welded a block of steel over there to stop the mantlet from falling down" like we see on WW2 vehicles.

And because this turret is unmanned and fully automated, it's quite small! You can imagine my shock when I dry-fitted the hull together and placed the turret on top of it. It's gonna be a BIG model!

Next up is the running gear so I can then fully focus on detailing of the hull.
