dogwalker process
Added 2023-05-13 14:46:45 +0000 UTCThis started out as an effort to get better at construction. I've noticed that in a lot of my work I tend to rush past the initial drawing phase, which leads to lots of fixing and corrections later on. I wanted to have a relatively solid sketch to build on. As you'll see in the video I still make a number of fixes; the walker's face changes several times, and I have to "fix" the proportions with liquify a couple of times. Some of this may not be avoidable. I do like having the freedom to explore shapes using light and form as well as with line. I think using line art to try to completely resolve the design of an image causes the rest of the process to become somewhat stale. Even so, trying to fix major issues becomes increasingly more troublesome as the painting becomes more developed.
I think the final result of this image is a little too derivative. And something about it feels somewhat stiff. I do like a few of the details though.
