Signal to Noise Ratio

What is SNR and what can it do for you.

Signal to Noise Ratio

I saw this funny looking guy eating cookies while using some of those and it looked pretty cool. I figured since I've got an awful lot to learn I might as well experiment with some stuff myself. So I got some inexpensive stuff from Amazon and tried it out. Turns out the whole depth of field is adjustable but as you've already stated there's no free lunch.

Anytime you put any medium in between your NV and the target it’s going to degrade the performance, so yes to your original question but why would you hamper your performance?

Sam, would higher SNR let you use refocus caps to greater effect? if with a higher SNR you need less light to get a good image, does it let you use matblocks or other devices to change the depth of field to greater effect? the reason I ask is I have fairly high SNR's in my 2 devices, over 30 SNR L3 filmless. I built a cheap refocus cap to see what all the noise was about and found that it did work as seen on video. when I gave my homemade device to a friend with a much lower spec tube, his results were pretty bad compared to mine. are refocus devices only for higher spec tubes? thanks for your time Sam.
