I wanna say something about Kenneth Copeland: Growing up my mom LOVED listening to his tapes and watching his programs on TV. We went to their conventions and my sister and I were even on the cover of their magazine. (This was was in the 80's). The Copelands are every bit the master weavers of bullshit that Donald Trump is. Which, I'm sure everyone has figured out for themselves. So why alarmed at the choice? They have morphed from a 'ministry' into an insular, woo-embracing, cult-like mindset. This organization is linked into a special brand of conservatism, mixed with evangelical shrillness, that's makes even moderate Christians cringe. As little power we have to influence this type of decision, I am compiling a list of investigative reporters in Texas, and writing to encourage them to dig into the Copeland organization. http://www.star-telegram.com/living/religion/article88296667.html http://www.dallasobserver.com/news/theres-a-measles-outbreak-at-vaccine-denying-pastor-kenneth-copelands-fort-worth-church-7110747

Oh, also they usually throw in something about how the courts are bias to only giving children to women, so men can't also do this. Usually.

I believe- and I don't agree- that Jesse Lee's argument is: "Because the provision of welfare is proportioned inverse to the income of the house, the government is encouraging women to divorce men and take up welfare. Because of this, the children are raised without a father. " At least, that's the way I've heard eloquent MRA lay it out. However, the usual end of that argument is "Therefore, we need to change welfare such that it is not economically advantageous to get rid of the man and live off welfare and alimony/child support." Now, you may be asking: "What does that have to do with gays?" To that, I respond: "How the fuck does this guy have a show in the first place?!"

Some kind of sanctions that would make the Saudi Kingdom sit up and take notice would promise to be effective during an Apollo-like effort to likewise present an ultimatum to the oil, gas and natural resource companies that "We will undertake one decade to switch from fossil fuels to electric cars, solar, wave, wind, geothermal {etc.], alternative energy technology--even nuclear, as 30 years ago, environmentalists, in their fervor to shut down anything that could possibly be harmful, when tests were underway on a new kind of reactor* that, even with all backup generators unplugged, cooling technologies detached, it reached a peak of 1700 F degrees and simply shut itself off

And how often does this many lashes kill the victim? A human rights violation, to be sure, even one lash--but is the object here to kill the hapless victim, who is obviously a political prisoner for taking to Twitter to announce his atheist views--and if so, do we, as atheists, or better still, human rights organizations have an obligation to step in, offer legal defense (someone must be able to counter _in court_ with loopholes in Shariah law (if it's 7th century as is the Qu'ran, a modern lawyer should be able to find one or more), not to mention that a jury of his peers in 2016 would actually be atheists from different countries. Not just atheist groups, but Amnesty International, etc. Do we have an obligation to introduce a civil liberties union like the ACU and groups like AI to say, "We'll take the infidels off your hands for you. Simply banish them, and we'll take them from there"? Better still, do we as people in the 21st century have an obligation to introduce covert, guerilla-style movements into the body politic of an ally like Saudi Arabia? It seems to me that a condition of selling $30 billion worth of obsolete yet still overleathal weapons would be, "No more harmful actions to your own people as recommended by the religious police."

In a slight change of topic, regarding the previous news subject: http://www.pbs.org/newshour/rundown/saudi-court-sentences-man-to-10-years-2000-lashes-for-atheist-tweets/, I'm horrified, of course, but not surprised; I find myself wondering, even if the victim were the biggest, strapping man like Schwarzenegger at his Mr. Universe prime, the biggest (across) NFL or NBA player (or, even MLS--those guys run 9 mles a game) or other high-endurance athelete you might think of as the person most likely to be able to take 2,000 lashes--1) don't know what's involved with the lash itself--are we talking a cat O-nine tails, or just a piece of leather or what--of course, whatever is used is incredibly painful, but must all 2,000 be administered all at the same time? Must the victim be conscious for all 2,000, or do they have to rouse the victim to continue? I'm sure I'd pass out from the pain before 100 (probably more like 10). 2) I'd be curious to learn some of the details (from you guys, on the show), as I think the rest of the listenership would. I can imagine in my mind's eye, a public display (it would have to be, to make the deterrent aspect of the punishment effective) of the religious police lashing away at this poor man--the entire thought of religious police able, nay, directed by Sharia law to seek out and find what _they_ think of as people engaging in aberrant behavior. They say "lash" but is it just a leather strap, or does it have little barbs punched in every few feet? How many such pieces of leather make up a "lash"?

Thank you for doing stories having nothing to do with Trump. I need a couple months to recover from this.
