Possibilism and necessitarianism

Comments

According to Robert Brandom statements of modality are normative commitments by speakers of a community to speak in certain ways. I dont buy that story but he elaborates on that a lot.

Don't you consider modality a form of normativity? It seems to me we're just talking about norms to be applied to reality. Being possible stands for something like "Reality is allowed to do this", being impossible is like "This is forbidden to reality" and being necessary is like "Reality has an obligation to do this". Looks like we're just anthropomorphizing reality in believing it has to follow some rules. But you are a normative nihilist, aren't you? You don't even believe that we are subject to norms. They don't have causal powers. And I agree. Does normative nihilism imply modal nihilism? Are modal norms a different kind of norm? So many questions.
