WE'RE ON THE TELLY!

Happy Monday, gang.

We went to the 50th anniversary of teletext Block Party on Saturday. Alas, we didn’t end up filming like we’d wanted – and ended up not staying long. We spoke to lots of people, I got to do my panel, did an interview, and everyone was absolutely lovely, but… due to life being as it is, I just don’t have the social resources at the minute. It’s weird and it sucks, but it is what it is. We’re just having to take each day as it comes. So, sorry if I didn’t say goodbye to you – but I had to flee.

If you watched BBC Breakfast News this morning you might’ve seen a blink-and-you-miss-it clip of us – it’s at 1.49 in the video above.

I got to meet my old Teletext boss Graham, and it was actually very nice to see him. He – and the event as a whole - did make me feel like I’d really been a part of something that mattered to people.

I feel like I should write something on this, the occasion of Ceefax and teletext’s birth, but I’ve probably said everything I can about it over the years.

Nevertheless, I really owe a lot to all the Block Party boys – Jason, Dan, Carl and David, as well as Chris from Super Page 58 – for putting on events like this and keeping teletext and Digi alive. If it wasn’t for them I’m not sure Digitiser would be here now. It was at the first Block Party that I showed some silly videos and did a little show, and people asked to see more – and here we are! What a mad almost-a-decade it has been…

I did my interview with We Fade to Grey yesterday, and it should be out on Wednesday. I’m not sure how it’ll turn out. John’s a nice guy, but I don’t feel I really got to say what I wanted to say, or what I thought the interview was going to be about. Certainly, my attempts to plug Digi were pretty much glossed over as us getting up to some “crazy” stuff! Which is fair I suppose.

I fret constantly about whether our videos are strange and funny enough to be classed as Digitiser and that we’re getting the balance right between the facts and the funnies – you won’t believe the grey hairs the latest one has given me on that score – but I forget that even a little bit of weirdness goes a long way for most people.

What’s “normal” for Sanja and I tends to be most people’s completely mental, so we underestimate how odd we can seem.

Anyway…!

VID-O

That latest Digi video is uploading right now, so should be with you in a couple of hours. It’s about 19 minutes – so a digestible amount. I’m pretty sure the next one will be a bit of an epic (we’re hopefully filming inside the HQ of the UK Freemasons for a start…).

This latest one is a bit more personal than some recent videos. It’s more of a monologue-y-type thing from me, on a subject I’ve been thinking about a lot, but I also think it’s very funny. We ended up not filming at Dinosaur Golf, as we decided it would’ve been too difficult, not least because I was too scared to “breakdance” there…!

Anyhow.

Video up shortly. Speak soon.

Paul

As noted beforehand, I was getting married on Saturday and I opened up my wedding speech by thanking everyone for coming along to our personal celebration of 50 Years of Teletext. 😂

So gutted to have missed this as it looked really interesting. Blame getting Covid. 😷 Due to not being to make this event I actually listened to Teletext 50: The History of the First 50 Years on the Byte High No Limit. It was uploaded in June and I’m not sure how I missed it as I have listened Byte High No Limit. It was a really interesting listen and I learnt a few things from it. Your interview on the podcast was really good too, particularly the Turner the Worm bit 😁 BBC Breakfast segment was great although they definitely should have had a little nod to Digitiser. 🙂
