That bad ending really is poetic justice when you consider the context of Arcueid saying drinking blood is like satiating lust for Vampires, what Shiki does to her she returns in kind. I find this kind of relationship where both parties have this underlying urge to destroy and devour the other yet still try to maintain their bond in spite of that to be pretty compelling.

2025-01-09 23:12:47 +0000 UTCPersonally, I prefer Shiki has a protagonist compared to Shirou as he is an asshole. He says and dose horrible thing whereas Shirou is like a saint. (Except during the H scenes which make them worse as he is so out of character.) No just that Shiki does horrible things, but he is quiet rude and sort of selfish whereas Shirou is selfless to the point of annoyance. Don't get me wrong, I don't enjoy watching Shiki being a maniac, but since he isn't himself when he's like that, we can still root for his him as a protagonist and we get to see him actually feel real guilt for his actions rather than Shirou's survivor's guilt.
