QI S1E1 Adam PATREON VERSION

I plan on going through the alphabet (although it sounds like I shouldn't skip Aquatic Animals)
but these are not on any specifical schedule, so stay tuned for how frequent or infrequent they are.

I hope the Early Access tier enjoys this Full Length Reaction, the rest will be on the full length tier as usual

QI S1E1 Adam PATREON VERSION

I believe the original intention was for it to be 'university' v 'university of life' with Stephen the captain of the educated team, and Alan the other. So that's why you had Alan and Danny on one side, and John (RIP) and Hugh on the other. But it never quite worked, so they went with Stephen as the host, and then kept Alan on for the whole thing.

I've been considering subscribing to your patreon for a long while. QI finally got me. It's my favorite show.

Some of the best comedians appear on QI and it's very addictive to watch. House MD was out in 2004.

Because of the phenomenon "the half life of facts", by law many of the things presented in the early seasons are now false (though true the the latest knowledge of the time). There is actually a full episode where they rectify some of these later on. It may be one of the more useful things I've learned from this show, whatever we learn, even if "true" at the time, in 10 or 20 years roughly 50% of those will now be false.

Starman Deluxe

Yeah its a different pace, but I found myself cutting big chunks out of the youtube edit which makes it actually kind of easy to edit. How do you think it wwnt as a full length (I will say I plan on pausing it more, but for some reason VLC was pausing and freezing every time I paused it. But I think I'll find a rhythm and style that let's me soak in as much as I can

Yes, you will come to love the music over time, assuming you keep up with this. Speaking of music, I have to admit the Randy Newman joke went entirely over my head. Still don't get it. But you've got in friend in me anyway.

And that single episode he missed in 20+ years? It was the year Arsenal made it to the Champions League Finals. He was in Paris to watch it.

Love the intro song! Can't wait to see how you'll rhyme something with Toksvig when we get that far 😂 I wasn't really sure how well doing full eps of this show would work for reactions, they pretty much talk non-stop which makes it hard for you to interject your thoughts, and even though I adore the show, I can't deny it can be a slow paced at times. There's plenty of comedy in there but I'd say the show leans more into "huh, that's neat" rather than "lol, that's hilarious" most of the time.

I recognized John Sessions instantly but I could not for the life of me remember why or where I'd ever seen him before. It was 20 minutes into watching this when it clicked. He was a mainstay on Whose Line in the very early days of the UK version of it.

I believe Hugh was on this show as a favour to Stephen, as he didn’t feel very comfortable on such shows. I‘ve spent a year watching all the episodes of QI and it was Quite Interesting to see Alan age over 20 years within that one year. He’s only ever missed one show in all that time. He’s also often (jokingly) put down as the stupid one (especially by Stephen as you’ll come to see when you get further into the show). This episode shows quite well why. In the early episodes the guests were very reluctant to give wrong or stupid answers, so the show would be quite boring. Alan decided that wouldn’t work and gave the supid, obvious answers for some comic relief. So he got kind of ‘forced’ by the producers to stay in the role of idiot sidekick to Stephen’s genius, even though he is actually pretty smart himself

QI is amazing. It used to be my favourite thing on TV, although Taskmaster may be equal now. I am glad that when you do it, it will be whole episodes, when people just react to clips, they lose all the context of the banter across the full episode! And its usually great banter!

Yoshua Simoleit

Davies bringing up random bullshit is already a joy

Adam from FWCI

The show definately relaxes and grows into itself!

Stretch

"Don't applaud that" is a common refrain for anything involving John Sessions :p which means it is so annoying it makes the loop to entertaining again.

Kim André Bøe

Qi like most series takes a couple of series to find it's grove series C is where I think it gets really good

Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie have known each other and worked together for decades. I love this show, some are funnier than others but Stephen is brilliant.
