Hey, what's up, everybody?
I know it's been a long time since the last update, literally right after I said I wanted to do these more often. I apologize for that. I started a new job recently that's been taking an insane amount of time away from me. I've talked with my higher ups about it recently and stuff should hopefully become more manageable. But enough about me, on to the actual interesting stuff.
The character creator is functionally complete. Obviously there's quite a bit to go in terms of looks, and all of the actual assets still need to be added. But everything works how it's supposed to (aside from skirts and dresses. That's another can of worms that will have to come later).
At the moment, new additions and changes include:
Being able to choose body patterns
Body and head are able to be separate colors.
Bra and underwear are now options (this will play into something I have planned for later, but can't talk about right now).
Jackets are now an option (you might be familiar with this from the broken 1.3)
Gloves/handwear is now an option.
Bellybuttons are 2D options again.
There's now only 1 accessory slot instead of 3. It just makes junk easier to code.
Eyelashes are no longer their own separate category. Again, it just makes things easier to produce for.
Currently remaking face assets with thicker outlines so they feel more "Mii-like".
Contemplating whether to make glasses assets 2D or 3D

Moving on, I've also managed to get saving and loading characters working again. This was a pretty big hill I have been dreading, which I'm glad to finally be over with... again. Unlike the current playable version of CCC, the plan for this one is to completely axe the apartment menu scene and just implement it as a menu in the main gameplay scene. One less scene to load and it should make switching between citizens faster. The main thing that hasn't been tested yet is if a player makes 2 characters with the same name. If this occurs, the game should be able to handle it properly, but I haven't actually put that through the wringer yet.

As for what's next on the chopping block, I'm currently taking another pass at the weight gain blend shapes on the main model and trying to make them as modular as possible without getting too impractical. I'm using a more involved layering system than I used to with previous versions. For example, one layer for the general belly shape. Another layer can be applied on top of that to determine the amount of "belly hang", another for "belly width", etc.
You might be reminded of the form you all got to fill out a little while back. You all submitted quite a variety of shapes and sizes. Some of them very, very large. I can't guarantee that every single example posted will become obtainable, but I'm hoping with this new modular system, the variety of shapes and sizes that can be reached should be higher than before.

That's my progress report for now. I'm going to continue working on these fat shapes and hopefully get a standard gain system written up by next time. As always, thank you all very much for your support and patience. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!
