Yavanna - preview

Who's up for a little preview of my next sketchbook page? ^___^

I tried to do the first silhouette-type Valar pin (Varda) yesterday, but I'm no longer sure silhouettes are the way the go. I'll probably toy around with other ideas, like doing fully-fledged paintings and then simplifying them for pins. That way, I would also be able to make stickers, which might make great sets. I certainly have time now. There are no more deadlines for conventions - I can't imagine that any of them will happen.

I'm so grateful for your support, by the way, continuing or even increased, and for ll those of you who still frequent my shop. We're probably all in for rough times, and insecure times at the very least, so I'm very, very grateful to all of you who still decide they can spare something for an artist.

As social distancing, closings, lockdowns and curfews mount, it's starting to become more and more apparent that we'll not be going back on normal in April. Part of me is simply fascinated by living through something so momentous that will change our world forever, fascinated and frightened and academically piqued. Just listening to the radio is goddamn weird. Commercials and songs that tell us "In the pub down the corner there's still a light, and there will always be one!" - NO. - "I used to have to say no to our cycling meetups, but thanks to [drug], I can come along again!" - NO. - "Let's go see the world, nobody can take it away from us!" - UH, YES, THEY CAN.

Add the rather weird odyssey I embarked on this morning trying to buy toilet paper. Yes, I'm still trying to buy toilet paper. I went to five supermarkets this morning, and the shop assistants laughed at me when I asked if they had any. I felt like Arnold Schwarzenegger trying to buy a TurboMan action figure on Christmas day. In the name of social distancing, though, I refrained from punching anyone in the face.

Stay safe, stay sane! <3

Strange times indeed. I like the comparison to the acquisition of a TurboMan. Ha!! The lockdown is fairly new here in the states, and I haven't had to brave the stores yet. I've heard harrowing stories, though. Thanks for the cheery art--your posts here are a day brightener amid all of this. :)

Gorgeous sketch, can't wait to see the rest. Hope you are never reduced to using sketch paper for a different use.

It seems that delivery isn't working here. I was told to be back at 1 pm, as they excepted a new delivery then - and when I came back at 1 pm, they told me the truck never came...

Strange times, indeed. But now as always, it's the people that matter. You matter, Jenny. Stay safe. Keep painting and writing. Art, in all its forms, helps us stay sane.

The trick to toilet paper acquisition, I was told yesterday in my local supermarket, is to be there at 6am when they open. Ridiculous but apparently true as they are stocked overnight. Insane times.

Jennifer Colley

Yay for not punching people in the face! *high five*

Oh, that is a gorgeous Yavanna !! And i agree with you about the whole situation being both fascinating and terrifying. I hope we will all learn some positive lessons through this dreadful experience, and that it will indeed change our world, change us all. Thank you for keeping up with your beautiful art, it's always a pleasure come here and find a new post !

Lovely sketch! I'm a big fan of stickers, personally, as well as pins! :) "Fascinated and frightened and academically piqued" just about perfectly sums up my mood lately! Hopefully the Great Toilet Paper Crisis will be over soon—we've been dealing with that for the better part of a week here in the US, but at least locally, it seems to be starting to calm down by the stores imposing limits on how much people can buy. :/ I hope you can get what you need soon!

Your art is a blessing in these weird times. I am one of the people still at work, but we're taking it day by day. At least I got the last milk in the store today - and felt like Jack Sparrow with his jar or dirt :D
