The Silver Doe

I still haven't got an overall theme or a clear direction - what I do at the moment is take quick ideas I've been nurturing over the years but never took the time to execute properly... and execute them quickly, hee.

I've never painted the silver doe, though I wanted to since 2007!

Today was the first day in a week that didn't bring drastic changes. The supermarkets were all open, and there was a normal number of people around - there just wasn't a lot to buy! I went to three different shops to do some only slightly augmented weekly grocery, but what I didn't find in any of them - and neither did my hubby in two shops he went to - was bloody toilet paper. I like to think that all Germans are secretly fans of Supernatural, and are taking to heart Chuck's Croatoan Virus Apocalypse warning: "Hoard toilet paper!!"

My mum is probably closer to the mark when she supposes that people just don't want to use so many paper tissues, and hoard toilet paper instead.

But then, toilet paper just started selling out in earnest after we'd seen the madness in the US. So I guess the truth is that Germany really would have settled for the pasta, but was made nervous by Supernatural-watching Americans?

I hope you're all doing okay!

Beautiful, beautiful Silver Doe <3 How shall we live with no toilet paper...?! T.T

I'm honestly surprised toilet paper was still readily available in your region until yesterday! Where I live (Bergisches Land) and work (Sauerland), it's been sold out for over a week, along with the pasta, in spite of regular attempts of the shopkeepers to replenish their stores. So my theory is rather that the people in your region have so far been hoarding Dutch toilet paper! Now they can't get it anymore, so they resort to emptying the shops that are still open to them... Never made the connection to people using toilet paper instead of paper tissues, though that would be a good explanation for the phenomenon! (That, and the fact that people honestly can't think of alternatives for wiping their butts in case of quarantine, such as *dun dun dun* washcloths. Or maybe they don't have washing machines at home. Huh. Further research necessary...) The art is amazing, of course! I'm in awe how you can make something look translucent and insubstantial, and yet not have it turn fuzzy and indistinguishable from the background.

Possibly later, with a few of these, yes! :)

Hiya, I'm glad the book reached you fine and that you enjoy it! There's also an option to have it autographed (with sketch) on Etsy. :)

Jenny Dolfen

Would you sell prints of this one?

Anjuschka

I guess toilet paper is now the most wanted product all over the world 😂 Here in Japan it was some fake news that made people buy tons of it all at once and since then even thought the news was marked as fake, we haven't seen much of toilet paper in the shops.

Damako

Toilet paper is all sold out here in Canada too.

I just got my art book in the mail today and love all the art in it as well as the descriptions surrounding each peace. It is all very well thought out and made. I think it would be nice to autograph the book for any buyers as this would make it even more special to have 😉 I will be trying to remake some of the drawings as practice because I would love to learn using watercolors like you. Signed,

I think making quick sketches of things that have been on the someday pile is an excellent idea. I'm enjoying them very much.

Beautiful painting, weird behavior.

All is well here at the moment, although today it was disclosed that a resident of my town has tested positive for covid. Everyone, please stay safe and healthy!
