Recovery 🏃

Hey everyone, the weekend is finished and I’m back from my Toronto Marathon with a couple very sore legs, battling a cold, and a lot of feelings to unpack. For this short version update: I’ll be releasing the Gold NMM Stormcast Challenge pt2 possibly later this week. And the next part 3 will have to wait a week since I’ll be back on the road to Naniamo to ve teaching a 2 day painting workshop alongside the second annual Emerald Brush painting competition. The video delays are primarily due to my race day recovery and how I got dealt an unlucky hand. I’m very sorry for the delay, and I hope you all can wait just a bit longer for them.

As for the Marathon itself, a roller coaster ride thats doesn’t compare to anything else. Simply put, I was running a very smooth and on top of my target pace all the way up till the 30km mark, just under 3hrs into it. Then my mid training injury of my knees shot right in and just crippled me. Then painfully staggered through the remaining 12km doing everything I can from having my legs completely seize. Trying to stop n stretch, walk and do what little running I could muster. That remaining 12km felt like an eternity to endure, but I’m proud I held my own and pushed past the pain to run the final 1km in stride to cross the line.

The recovery is brutal, not only are my legs in a throbbing pain, but I also caught a cold which was actually just setting in the night before. But the race and adrenaline would push that aside till after. So a double whammy of bad luck! I didn’t get to run the race I wanted, nor the time I was shooting for either. But it was my first Marathon, and more importantly it was with my loving partner Terra (she’s a seasoned runner). I got taught a lot of lessons through the whole experience, and just like painting, I’ll be going through those so I can improve myself for the next race in Paris 2025! (Yea I’m that idiot who tortures themselves and signs up to do it again 😂) So with a time of 4:47:11 I guess I get a personal best and one I can look forward to crushing next year!
