I actually had the foresight to start a timelapse on this picture because unlike my other timelapse, I started on a fresh canvas and sketched on it! Someday I'll consider maybe screen recording instead, the Clip feature is super convenient, but it might be fun to break down my process a little more concisely that doesn't get easily conveyed in a 30 second speed paint.
Some tips I can explain that I utilized in this that are very brief but go into my workflow to make drawing stuff like this SUPER quick and easy. This image maybe took a little under an hour to complete? I feel even SHORTER because Lazlo is such an easy character for me to draw.
For the linework, I used a vector layer. This is handy for a few reasons:
- I can let perpendicular lines cross and then use the vector eraser to snip off those overhangs and clean things up
- When coloring, I flick on "Set to reference layer" and in my paint bucket settings I am able to fiddle with them so when coloring in vector lines it flows up to the vector line rather than the textured edge of my pen. This helps with any of those anti-aliasing white outlines you might get
- An often lesser used function on my behalf, but after a line is drawn I can finetune the line to be exact with the Correct Line tools which are for grabbing and pulling the tiny vector line points
Other features of my art here are my attempt to add colored lines to certain features on Lazlo, but they're so tiny and the colors are generally so dark so it feels a bit like a wasted effort, but I don't care it makes me happy.
NEARLY forgot his damn freckles, thankfully I put them in real quick somewhere while coloring the lines LOL
Overall a very simple picture with a tummy that only took ONE attempt to get right!! Sometimes I be CNTRL+Zing that bitch of a line to get it to look JUUUST right.
Anyways, hope y'all have a happy holidays!!
