tadaa, here's a process pack for this drawing of weshau and minoru!
as you can see, the colouring technique (and the resulting look of the picture) is a bit different from my last wip/process pack. i use different techniques depending on what i'm feeling like or what i want to achieve with a particular picture. i have a few "default" methods i keep returning to but i love to change it up, try new things, mix and match. it's extremely satisfying to try something new and have it turn out looking great, so i'd strongly recommend experimenting a lot instead of just doing the same thing all the time. i use different brushes for both the sketch/lineart stage(s) and the colouring, which can change the whole vibe of a picture; i colour/shade/highlight in different ways, and work with different sorts of textures/finishing touches. this is going to be evident in the process packs i upload, so if you're curious about the various methods i use, i'd encourage comparing the processes to one another.
part of the purpose with this drawing was to experiment with a colouring technique that would be fairly quick, but still come out looking crisp and striking. i have my future comic projects in mind - i want to make every comic page look polished and ... refined?, while still being able to produce them pretty fast. i gotta say, i'm very happy with how this came out - it's got a kind of cel-shaded feel to it, even?
one a different note, fun fact: weshau is one of my most colourful characters ever. he's fucking blue. i generally lean towards very natural-looking colours for my monsters, but i'm also trying to challenge myself and play around with more Unusual colours. that's not really the reason weshau is blue, though - he's a star beast, so he's got the colours of the starry night sky. makes sense, right?
i hope you like this process pack, and if you have any questions or thoughts - leave a comment below <3
