Hello All!

What an introduction to S5!! Emma is now in the titles too, love to see it. We also had that emotional scene with Giles & Buffy - my heart! Then the twist of all twists with Joyce suddenly saying 'sister'...guys I cant...this has broken my brain...

Have a lovely week everyone! Thank you for the constant love & support!

Much love

Dakara x

This is a fun one to come back to. You’re telling me you don’t remember Dawn’s integral role in the first four seasons? 😛

Nicholas Corgan

OMG. LOL You went the whole nine yards on this one. That's so mean. I love it.

Raven Dark

Yaaas dunno if u reuploaded but Dropbox is not expired anymore on this one. Google still not loading vid but maybe it’s my devices (iPad and phone and ps4). Thankyou. Hope s4 is still available

Jason palesa

I thought she was a half sister when I first saw this episode and they were introducing a half siblings lmao

Jella Jellobean

Gaslighting about Buffy's sister. This is the REAL reason season 5 is everyone's favorite!

Steve Quast

Really funny episode, even cheesy sometimes, ideal to reconnect with all the characters after the between seasons long break. The only two subject of a certain relevance introduced in this episode are: addressing Giles' role in the gang, and the beginning of Buffy's journey to discover the true nature of the slayer. About the latter, Dracula's fatal mistake here was assuming that Buffy's darkness rivaled with his … but it was way deeper and darker. I'm a little annoyed that Amber Benson (Tara) didn't get her place in the title cards, and that, for some reason, I felt a certain disconnection between Buffy and Willow in the episode, they are both in the same scene more than once, but they barely interact. Question – No one else is bothered that they never deal with how Anya manages to provide for herself, where she lives, or why Xander never seems to be able to spend a single night at her place, wherever it is, not even in whites days? It's just me? As much as I like this episode, on the other end, from a cinematographic point of view instead, it has something that didn't age well at all, and rewatching it now makes me sick. I'm not talking about the terrible, and honestly totally avoidable, green screen, or, as Dakara says, they took the piss with Sarah's stunt double, they didn't even try to make her look like Sarah, not even from behind. No, what I'm talking about is thinking that an action scene requires 100 cuts/min might be a smart idea. I get that they probably saw it as this cool new style at the time, but over the past twenty years it has been so much used and abused that today it's simply unbearable to watch. For Dakara, rewatch the first two minutes of episode 4x15, really. Will it reveal anything to you? Absolutely not! But you'll understand what I meant when I talked about “Ahah!” moments.

And how can anyone forget that scene from the Kathy episode where Joyce told Buffy 'thank goodness you weren't an only child or you'd be dealing with Kathy even worse'

Ed Green

Buffy and Riley's lack of chemistry in this episode stands out like a sore thumb.

Calvin Williams

Right? Who can forget some of her hilarious quips in "Band Candy"?

JoDaNa81

most used word in this reaction WHAT lol yep that about sums it up dak :)

Ian

How could anyone forget about Dawn? Buffys' little bratty sister who has had a crush on Xander since the start of the show, when she was 10, and has been super jelly that Buffy and Willow get to hang out with him all the time. Every time she shows up in an episode it's with some attitude.

Tammy L. Faulkner

Yeah, they only mentioned her sister a couple times and she was only ever in that one Thanksgiving episode so it's understandable you forgot Buffy wasn't an only child.

Julian Welton

Yeah, you must have missed it. She has been in every episode so far, you must have just been too focused on Buffy to notice. Tell ya what, how about we start over from the beginning and watch from episode 1 just to make sure 😊. I am totally not trying to drag this journey out longer so it doesn't end anytime soon, you really missed a big detail, totally honest 😉😁

Welcome to Season Five, my friend. Don't let all the enthusiasm in the comments mislead you. This is a very dull season ahead of you. Most fans consider season five to be their least favourite in the series. I usually skip over it entirely when doing a re-watch, but I suppose I'll tag along and commiserate with you. And...I hate to be a party-pooper, but these guys are just teasing you. The WB (Warner Bros) was just a new TV network at the time Buffy came out and there were some contract disputes with the writers and some legal/copyright issues when it was released on video so when the DVD and Blu-rays were released later on there were some scenes edited out and sadly a lot of those did feature little sis. You really didn't miss anything though. I believe the original VHS copies still include the uncut scenes? There's this one with Angel and a bike that was pretty sweet. Anyway..... I'm glad you did enjoy Buffy vs Dracula. I'll admit to loving that scene with Giles and Buffy at the end, but it's all downhill from here. Good luck. xo

John

Glad you're back Dak. Missed your reactions. Though your YouTube versions sustained me. Especially Lovers Walk, which was full of the Dak-isms that are so enjoyable. And repeated here. Comedy episode, really. And we know what that means? Buffy will be getting a reputation - that's three vampires who have drunk from her! Riley has a scar where he removed the device implanted by Prof Walsh. Good continuity, which shows the care they have in making the show. Remember the Buffy/Faith dream? Buffy: "I wish I could stay, but..." ... Faith: "Little sis coming. I know." Buffy: "So much to do before she gets here."

denmaroca 2

Yes, it's out of plot convenience, but Buffy's conscience is an equally important in-universe reason. It's a part of who she is that she doesn't kill the helpless.

Ed Green

There’s an excellent comic book trade paperback out there called Spike vs Dracula that explains the history between them and why they’re “rivals”. You shouldn’t read that until you’re done with both Buffy and Angel though because there are massive spoilers in there. It’s a good read once you’re done reacting to the Buffyverse.

Gabe Morales

It was a TV movie, which oddly enough I only learned about when people started mentioning it when Alley Box reacted to this episode. 20 years, didn't know anything about it. Knew SMG and the guy who plays Drac played loved interests on All My Children back in the day, but not about the movie.

Stargazer1682

Said it before on discord ofcourse, but its good to finaly see the sister on screen again. The youngest is always forgotten in this show. I love how they do this episode, and did you know this was actually a crossover episode for a dracula tv show that was airing at the time i believe. I've said most things on discord already and I know you've read them :). loved your reaction and i look forward to the next one .

Bart Aansorgh

Come on, Dak, you're telling me you never even noticed Buffy's sister before now?! I thought you were a more observant viewer than that. But seriously, in your after-show comments you mentioned apologies to any hardcore Buffy-Riley shippers, and I had to wonder... are there any?! I can't imagine it.

Neil Silverman

What do you mean? Her sister has been in the show since the beginning, just a minor character in the back ground at family dinners.

Merkavar

😆 The traditional roasting has started. Love this season can’t wait to see more reactions. "You think you know... what's to come... what you are. You haven't even begun." Where have we heard that before? :)

Collinson

Riley say Buffy has an issue killing Spike now that he's helpless, because he's helped her before. I enjoy Spike as an antagonist, but by the end of season 4 they had written themselves into a corner with Spike; where there's really no good reason to keep him alive, "neutered" or not. The fact he could play the mind games he did in season 4 and was playing the double cross goes to show that he's not so harmless; and with a little creativity could be plenty dangerous. It's only out of plot convenience, and that he's now apart of the main cast that he's not.

Stargazer1682

I know, I didn't realise Dakara had a younger sister for ages, and then one day she brought her onto her Twitch Stream as if we'd known her all along... haha

Sharon Owen

Ah, the bike scene, almost as good as the bike scene from E.T., good times.

Shaun Houghton

This already happens to the youngest kids. Nobody cares about them and they ignore their existence! So rude but understandable.

Phoenix Dawn

Let the gaslighting begin. It's like a reactor tradition; every reactor gets to season 5, pretends they've never seen Buffy's sister before... Like, I get it, we didn't see her as often in season 4, with Buffy away at college, and she's probably grown like a foot or two since the season 3 finale. So it's like, woah, that can't be the same kid sis who tranq'd Vamp Willow in Doppelgangland...! But who could forget season 1, episode 4, when she was "playing detective" and following Buffy around, trying to catch her doing something she wasn't supposed to be doing, like smoking or kissing boys; and she kept just missing her slay vampires. And then finally, she ends up getting attacked by one, and Buffy saves her; learning her secret and she sort of becomes Jr member of the group? It had the B-plot of Xander almost getting eaten by a teacher. Can you imagine if that were the entire episode? And then afterwards, she kept trying to protect Buffy's secret from Joyce, but most of the time her excuses drew more attention to things and Buffy had to cover. Or what about the time Ethan posed as her school librarian and gave her an enchanted book that drew everyone in and turned them into the characters? Joyce became Glinda the Good Witch, Willow was the Scarecrow, Angel was the Tin Man, and Xander was the Cowardly Lion. Buffy was Toto. "You made me the dog???" What a great line. Of course Giles was the Wizard. And who could forget her teaching Angel how to ride a bike, because they hadn't been invented yet when he was a kid; and then she used the same bike to get away from him after he lost his soul. So good.

Stargazer1682

This isn't a spoiler because even the show itself pointed this out in season 3, but Buffy IS an only child......

Tim Pierce

This has got to be one of my favourite season openers. Season 5 has a different feel to it I think, starting with this ep. I also LOVE Buffy's style and hair in this. She really likes those leather trousers doesn't she? lol. Your reaction to the spider eating did not disappoint lol.

Sharon Owen

oh it started last Friday on Twitch and Discord after she told us she'd watched the first 2 episodes...

Sharon Owen

Oh no. LOL The season five hazing has begun. :D A lot of this episode is just okay for me, mostly because, while I like camp when handled right, there's too much of it here and it just kind of takes me out of the show. I would however, point out one important thing. Dracula's line, "You think you know. What you are. What's to come. You haven't even begun." That's exactly the same line Tara's voice said at the end of Restless, season 4's finale. And like you, I love the part with Giles. And watching the final scene never gets old. Who else skipped to the ending scene? Come on, fess up. :D

Raven Dark

There's more chemistry between Buffy and and a loaf of sliced bread than her and Riley.

Shaun Houghton

Good to see you comment on Buffy's sister, it's like you've just noticed that she's there. After four seasons hopefully some appreciation can come her way.

Shaun Houghton

Well, there was more chemistry between Buffy and Dracula than between Buffy and Riley...

Gau Thier

Probably my favorite on screen portrayal of Dracula lol
