Early Video Release – Exclusively for Our Patrons

Dear Birbs,

Ever heard the claim that your blood vessels could wrap around Earth twice at 100,000 kilometers long? We did, and it blew our minds! So much so that we invested over a year to verify it. Spoiler: the truth is a bit tangled. Dive into our investigative journey filled with outdated science and unexpected twists.

Your amazing support as Patrons allows us to dedicate this time and creativity (like trying out a live-action approach for this video). To show our appreciation, we're sharing the video with you two days before it goes live publicly.

Thank you for your support, it truly means the world to us! πŸ’–

Much love, all of us at kurzgesagt πŸ¦†βœ¨

Unglaublicher Aufwand, nur um so was "Unwichtiges" zu ΓΌberprΓΌfen - respekt! Echt inspirierend und zeigt, wie hart ihr arbeitet. Weiter so! :)

I've been watching your videos for about 10 years now, back when I was still a broke undergraduate student. Recently, watching your 2 videos i.e. "4.5 Billion Years in 1 Hour" and this one, practically compelled me to support your patreon. Keep up the great work as always!!! πŸ‘

As a high school librarian, I totally plan on incorporating this.

After years of enjoying your videos and buying your merch, this is the video that finally got me to support through Patreon. My first ever use of Patreon!

Anthony Devine

the fact that you guys up this much detail and hard work into your videos is the reason why I subbed to your patron

Nocala

You people are the best kind of insane. Thanks for all your hard work.

This one feels like it should be available to teachers and professors to show students.

Very interesting information and not surprising that it's at least wrong by a multiple of 5 to 10. But, more interesting to me is this answer on the Internet of the question of how long all of the DNA in the body would be if measured end to end: "Each human cell has around 6 feet of DNA. Let's say each human has around 10 trillion cells (this is actually a low ball estimate). This would mean that each person has around 60 trillion feet or around 10 billion miles of DNA inside of them. The Earth is about 93 million miles away from the sun." I have absolutely no faith that there is even the slightest amount of reality in this answer.

Well, obviously. They sold out of that calendar about 10,000 years ago. Pretty sure they're selling 12,025 calendars right now.

This was a really interesting and unique one. Thank you for spreading light on the fact that any established "credible" fact can be distorted out of it's context. This is well needed in an age of information where a lot of these catchy fun facts circle around without any clear origin

This makes me want to find the source for the thermal output of the human body us mechanical engineers use for our thermal load calculations in HVAC design. We tend to just use it uncritically without asking where it came from.

I believe a similar story was that spinach has so much iron in it, it just got accepted at some point and even though it isn't true, and there now are papers about it, it is hard to get rid of the saying because it is so popular xD Love your story and channel, keep up the good work/research +1

IceZyclon

Love the "Behind The Scenes" of the birbs in a real office.

Well, as long as you do not suddenly unearth that what the physics community had always taken as a fact is untrue and electromagnetic waves in a near vacuum actually travel much faster as we currently calculate with, I am just amazed but not really shocked that this little back of the envelope "guesstimation" from over a 100 years ago had survived for so long in the scientific community... After all, scientists are also just mere humans and prone to err now and then just like everyone else. Well I at least hope they are human... :D

hitchhiker0680

Where does one buy that Bacteriophage plushy?

As always, a really interesting video and love your dedication to accuracy!
