I hated so much about this episode. As someone who's studied medieval sieges and battles and played my fair share of strategy games and it really irks me that the SMARTEST minds in Westeros don't know how to properly conduct their units.
Who the fuck sends the Dothraki on a suicide charge in the middle of the night against an enemy that can raise the dead??? Why the fuck are your catapults not BEHIND your units, barricades, or walls. There should have been WAY more archers pelting obsidian arrows into the army from behind the walls. Obsidian is literally a 1 shot kill, 1,000 soldiers with 30 arrows could have killed 30,000 undead.
The Unsullied and the North armies should have been behind the walls on the ramparts or behind the trench barricade. The Dothraki should have been in the forest to the left and right and arrived in a pincer maneuver from both sides once the dead started to crash against the walls.
It feels like the Dan and Dave wanted to have this epic shot of the charge into the undead army but they didn't stop to think how god damn stupid that was.

Also, the supposed smartest minds in Westeros decided to put the Dothraki on the front lines—with regular weapons—without even knowing Melisandre was going to show up?
Cool spectacle, sure, but Tyrion—“the smartest man alive”—and all those other seasoned battle masterminds seemed pretty dim with that tactical brilliance.
They knew the dead could only be harmed by dragonglass, Valyrian steel, or fire, and still went in with standard weapons only to make Dotharaki join the other side? Come on.

I haven’t finished the episode yet, but putting the most vulnerable people in the crypt was one of the dumbest ideas ever. The army of the dead is coming—so let’s hide where we’ve buried our dead?
Are you serious, my dude?
