Week #10 Sketchbook Prompt

Hey guys! It looks like I forgot to post the Week #10 Prompt here, whoops! Steven took over the club prompt this past week so here's his prompt:

Prompt: "Art History"

Steven here with the "I minored in Art History" special for you this week.

"Art is for everybody." - Keith Haring

After doing further research on a historical artwork of your choosing, create some artwork of your own! Let your research inspire you to create something with similar intentions, emulate their techniques, or participate in an art movement yourself. Think about what draws you into that artwork, or into that moment in history. Is it an aesthetic preference? A shared history? A piece of yourself? Wherever that curiosity leads you, I encourage you to follow it!

Attached above are a few drawings of Donatello's statue of "David." It has to be one of my favorite pieces produced during the Italian Renaissance. It reminds me that strength can exist beside tenderness, vulnerability, and playfulness. Throughout this week, I'll be making some more gestural/contour drawings of various pieces that I've grown a strong affection for.

Personally, I always find myself looking at Smarthistory as my primary research guide. They have pieces categorized by time periods, regions, and movements, which makes it very easy to navigate and to find an artwork that resonates with you! Also, they have a bunch of playlists on YouTube with videos that discuss various artworks. Very relaxing to watch those!
