Enjoy! Next ep Monday!

Comments

I really love Pike and Scanlan's relationship in this season. Even if they're not sure how to feel romantically, seeing Like be so reassuring with Scanlan and his daughter problems is really sweet.

I know new seasons of shows are around the corner, but I'm still firmly in support of Castlevania laying on Mondays. As far as video game adaptations go, it honestly rivals Arcane (animation, writing, characters). Castlevania ran so that Arcane could sprint . . . (andthentripatthefinishline.)

Welcome to the tonal whiplash! I agree with the comments on metagaming. A lot of times players have to deal with the choice of staying in character or understanding the mechanics of the game to know what the ideal choice is. And then having to choose. It becomes a bigger thing when character lives are at stake. My personal favorite example was once I was playing a ranger/cleric of Lathander (basically a druid with better armor and two-weapon fighting), and while the rest of the party was sleeping, my character was in a tavern. It's important to note -- my character is true neutral. A fight breaks out between two NPCs in what is the DM's attempt to get our party into the adventure. The winner of the fight was a ruffian who cast a spell to quickly dispatch the opponent. My true neutral tree-hugger cleric was like "circle of life" and went back to drinking. I had to fight the impulse to investigate (and to size this opponent up -- my cleric was pretty high level at this point) to stay in character. Of course, this forced the DM to find another way to get the party involved. In this instance, metagaming would say that Raishan is a match-up problem for this party. Vox Machina has never faced a dragon with a whole arsenal of spells and Raishan can just sit back and toss high level spells at them. I know this would never happen but I would love a Pike/Kima team up in a mini-series.

I'm almost through season one of Dr. Stone, BTW. Still enjoying myself. My favorite character's probably either Kohaku, Suika, or Ginro. Kohaku's a bada** and a great brawn to Senku's brains. Suika's at Eri-levels of cuteness, but with much more plot relevance. Ginro's probably the FUNNIEST character in the show, and that's mainly due to Deku's voice actor. His round in the Great Bout in season one has me laughing harder than anything else has in a while. 🤣🤣🤣 Definitely hope K & M pick this one up soon. 👍🏻

Thank you kenny for so consistently keeping this intro in, during this show. solid W.

I like that everyone is slowly getting a few songs. Matt did wonderfully this season. Even Grog got a recap song, with Pike to back him up, so now we're just missing 4 members who're yet to sing.

The details to the mansion were because Sam meticulously plotted it before hand. He really takes notes of all the little things that ultimately define a character and always works it into his own character somehow. Top tier player

Random connection to the title of the episode. Brimscythe the first Dragon they defeated, was known as the Iron Storm. David Tennant who voiced Brimcythe also played Dr Who, and in that series one of his epithets is The Oncoming Storm lol

It's definitely just supposed to be a dome that you can sleep under, but I ain't here to yuck anyone's yum.

I'm hoping 7 and 8 will be a double drop.

HBelmont 24

so excited for next week's episode omg

Clover

How many times did Montana say" I KNEW IT" this episode? 🤣🤣🤣 That deserves its own Counter on YouTube for SURE. 😂

HBelmont 24

Tell that to my Pally who can end a caster in one turn and has crazy high saving throws lol

Uscmiller22

I think your Liamund's Tiny Hut might be a bit homebrewed Kenny, bc afaik it's meant to just be a dome you can sleep under.

StorytellerDave

All I know about that is that it's a reference. Care to elaborate?

HBelmont 24

Oh god the Keyfish easter egg lmao if you know, you know

Martial classes can do some crazy s*** at high level. Fighters can basically action surge to OTK almost any magical class, barbarians I mean just look at Grog, they can have SO much hp, I think Grog had almost 300 hp by the end of the campaign, and with resistances that can go to like 450 EHP. Monks I think are a bit underwhelming at high level, they seem to peak at mid-levels, but they can also do some crazy things, stunning strike is insane and they can reliably disable pretty much anything that's not immune, cuz they can just use it over and over, and they also have maybe the highest move speed in the game? Some other classes can get close with certain abilities, but they're fast asf and they're basically disablers at high level, just stunning everyone. Rogues can do insanely high burst damage, their opening salvos tend to do some of the highest damage to a single target that you can do in D&D. Like, sure wizards do more AoE damage, but a proper sneak attack from a Rogue can mess people up.

"I just wanted everyone to have fun." Sorry to say, Montana, but that first part of the episode was the last bit of fun we get this season. 😬

An added sting to Percy's conscience is probably the fact that he had the chance to end Ripley at the Ziggurat in season one. He chose not to as to not warn the Briarwoods, which allowed Ripley to slip away. Only for Percy to walk up to them anyway; he SHOULD'VE killed her then. 🫤

HBelmont 24

Ok when the heck did leomomd's tiny hut make a wine bar? In the 2014 the spell just makes a safe space in a small radius big enough for a camp and stuff.

Suplee215

Unrelated, but I went to a Ren Faire for the first time yesterday! Tons of fun. 🗡️🪉✨

HBelmont 24

Chateau Shorthalt is definitely my favorite song in Vox Machina this far. 😁🎶💜

HBelmont 24

To answer your question about what becomes of martial classes at higher levels, the short answer is that they do more damage and/or attack more times to keep up with the average damage per turn of casters. But there is actually a concept called “linear fighters quadratic wizards” where especially in older editions, a martial class may get more attacks or stronger attacks, but casters get more spell slots AND better spell slots AND better spells, meaning that they very quickly outpace fighters in damage and utility later on.

This has to be one of the FUNNIEST reactions on the channel. Montana's absolute SATISFACTION and vindication when Vex came from under the water was so freaking good. Get it, girl! 🤣🤣🤣

HBelmont 24

Same with her opening the door naked for Percy. 😏

HBelmont 24

Current edition of dnd the martial keep up pretty well to casters. The big reason is spell slots to boil it down. Yes a level 20 wizard can wish on a monkeys paw once a day or summon meteors from the sky to destroy a small army. But then what? Or what if the bad guy saves against you super powerful spell? Fighters can attack 4 times in 1 round at level 20. This may seem weak but if they all hit (which is easier than getting a spell off, especially on bosses with legendary resistence) thats 44 damage a round. With no resources or anything. If they action surge thats 88. If you add subclass abilities, magic weaoons that deal more (you got 12 damage just from a plus 3 weapon), feats and fighting style and thisngoes up a ton. Someone did the math and Percy's build is actually the top theoretical damage dealer if he crits every attack and everything goes perfectly. Which sounds insane but as a high level gunslinger he crits in a 19 (another fighter subclass crits on a 18). Other marital classes get stuff like Barbarians break the rule of the game and their strength and con both go up by 4 to max 24 each which means every attack has +2 accuracy, + 2 damage, his he goes up by 40, and his ac even goes up by 2. Martial are consistent damage dealers and can do things casters cant. Just for comparison, if a wizard blows his spell slots too early he's left with cantrips. That deal 22 damage a turn on average. With a lot less bonuses.

Fun fact: Laura Bailey improvised the "Oh btw, I'm in the bath." moment, much to everyone's delight.

Mark O'Leary

This uses a very underutilized spell. Modredkenien's magnificent mansion. In the camaoign its jsut a spell Scanlan has to avoid going camping. The key was a great way to give that spell to him tthoughba story element.
