The love you have for each other is radiant and truly the high point in my week. I can truly say that NADDPOD, Dimension 20, and Critical Role has deepened my bond with my 19 yr old son. I am the luckiest dad in the world and have two amazing kids, each with their own special gifts and talents. DND, especially podcasts that present it like theater in the mind have been my anchor since 2016 and to be able to share in that love with my son has been awesome. I lost my dad when I was 23. For us, it was Monty Python: that uniquely adult humor we could unite us when he had to tolerate me being a puke college student. I didn’t recognize at the time that having that bit of joy to share together would sustain me after his loss. As a father, I never take time with my kids for granted and I again cannot fully express how much you all mean to me. Sorry for the long post, and I’m sure your too busy to read them all, but just posting it feels like I’ve been able to say this to you all in person.

2022-04-30 18:30:23 +0000 UTCHey everyone, session 0 dead guy here to clarify a couple things for your sakes since the judges brought up questions. It started as building characters, but after an hour or so the DM was like, "ive got a couple hours. Want to start?" with the group, so we all just kept going. He called the battle a "simulation" as it took place in our characters' HQ in a training arena, but the zombies were quite real, as I learned. Mishka, my fire loving fighter, did get to go out in a blaze of glory by being allowed to ignite his gas tank after hitting 0 HP, so I was able to at least damage a lot of zombies, but the DM was also clear after that he was DEAD. My new character may use his organs, but there's no memories left of Mishka's sad life or death. The DM definitely was clear from the start at how violent this campaign would be. I just figured that a fighter with burning hands masked as a flamethrower for flavor, molotov cocktails, a shotgun and 22AC would fare a bit better against simple undead, and having him gone forever after 1 round felt tragic.

It's a fight that isn't cannon, you don't have to roleplay your character, and any consequences won't happen afterwards (for example a pc death). It's mainly so pcs can try their character out in battle and the dm can get a feel for how many enemies they can throw at the pcs to make adequately difficult encounters. It's named after the Danger Room in X-Men and I can't wait to try it out for my next champain!
