Looking Ahead to the Next Adventure
Added 2024-03-06 19:29:30 +0000 UTCAs I work on the penultimate map of Dungeon of the Mad Mage, I can't help but look ahead at what is next. I still have a handful of releases left for DotMM (3x Level 22, one per tier; and probably 2-4 for Level 23 as I want to do the grand finale justice).
I will be very clear here - my intent is to INFORM my decision on what to do next - NOT MAKE IT. Mapping an entire adventure is a serious undertaking - I will need to scope it out, make sure I can do it, look at what else is out there for it already, etc. etc. - the winning vote will not be guaranteed to be mapped.
The options listed are the ones I have done a preliminary scan of for feasibility. To be honest, I am leaning towards Strahd. It is a popular campaign and while there are some map options out there, there isn't really anything in my simple illustrated style (let me know if I missed someone's maps though!)
Thank you for your support as I wrap up DotMM. I am looking forward to escaping the Dungeon and setting off on the next adventure! (please no massive dungeons for the next adventure).

2024-04-15 17:17:52 +0000 UTCI too would love this although I don't think committing to a complete unknown like that is the best choice for Tych.

2024-04-15 17:14:21 +0000 UTCDIA needs some high-quality maps. TOA and PaB have good maps from the box

2024-04-15 08:10:53 +0000 UTCThere's no reason to do maps for Curse of Strahd as there are already numerous high quality maps from other patreons out there. It'd be much more useful to map an adventure that's been given less love.

2024-04-13 00:19:58 +0000 UTCDIA would be stellar. If you wanna go the extra mile, i'm happy to gift the Fall of Elturel supplement too. I plan to use that when I run it. <3 Just DM me and let me know.

2024-03-26 06:35:41 +0000 UTCI know it doesn't come out for a while yet, but I love your map styles and I'm planning on running "Eve of Ruin" soon-ish after it comes out.

2024-03-17 10:36:37 +0000 UTCI just changed my vote and it levelled the top three into a tie. Sorry...

2024-03-11 21:36:26 +0000 UTCCurse of Strahd is the most popular module & has the most full sets of maps already made for it. I'd prefer something currently actually missing good map options, which is why I'll vote for BG:DiA. But I'll keep supporting the Patreon for literally anything but Curse of Strahd (as I already have more than enough map options for it that I already like)

2024-03-07 17:32:54 +0000 UTCI leaned away from DMing anything from Tales from the Yawning Portal because of a lack of good, detailed maps. Since the one-shots aren't related, you could just do one or two of them to play with different settings.

2024-03-07 13:49:03 +0000 UTCI cast my vote for DIA - I think focusing on the adventures with maps that aren't done up in the full color of published adventures is a good idea, as they don't really have alternatives that are at your level of quality. However, it might not be a bad endeavor to branch out into Pathfinder adventures - even if less people will play them than 5e, the Paizo maps are of *abysmal* quality for VTTs - small files, squares aren't even, etc. Your maps are very high quality in comparison, and I think the Pathfinder VTT community wouldn't mind the aid. Most of the 2nd edition adventure paths are officially ported (as is Phandelver and Below) with proper map quality, but the vast majority of PF1e adventure paths are down in the gutter in terms of map quality, and they include a good variety of themes to keep the creative juices flowing - Iron Gods for high tech, Carrion Crown for gothic horror and architecture, Wrath of the Righteous for demons, etc. Wish you the best of luck on your future map projects!

2024-03-07 00:49:16 +0000 UTCI would like to note a few things: 1) it is not surprising that CoS and ToA two are the front runners. Those are the two S-Tier adventures. Both are amazing. You can't go wrong with either. 2) I think you should do both, but in the right order that makes sense to you. :-) 3) ToA is a MASSIVE step up in scale over Strahd. It also has fantastic full sets of maps such as Paul Weber's set, and Tor's has very good coverage of the last two chapters (Omu/Shrines/Fane/TotNG). It also has the full Mike Schley treatment, unlike Waterdeep which was Tyson. That right there means less market opportunity: you get solid maps out of the box, and Mike sells highres for cheap bundles. EDIT: 4) Your Waterdeep choices were the BEST first choice due to the fact that, in general, the maps were not well received by the VTT community for obvious reasons (I love Dyson's work, but for different use cases). And, due to the SHEER SIZE of the need (as you're well aware), that means that there was a huge opportunity IF you could tackle it (and you did). I'd recommend following that same general approach here: yes, listen to the community, but also look for market opportunity. And, personally, I think ToA and CoS would both be excellent choices, but for different reasons. First, ToA is massive, and has LOTS of encounters and explorable areas that are missing maps. That means opportunity, but it's a very different approach than what you took with Waterdeeps where you had maps to "port". ToA, conversley is MISSING a ton, but, for what it has, it has solid Mike Schley maps. They're not everybody cup of tea (the interior maps are usually quite spartan with details), but for most, they are fine. if you want to get an idea of just how much there is missing for ToA, download Paul Weber's ToA map set, and you'll see how crazy it can be. Second, CoS, is also Schley maps, and unlike ToA maps, has excellent coverage due to the smaller scale. However, there is a HUGE opportunity for increase in art style that fits Ravenloft style. Mike's maps here FEEL like his maps, in his traditional style. That's fine for most games. It's fine for ToA, for example. But they just don't FEEL right for Ravenloft. That equals opportunity. So, I honestly don't think you could go wrong with either, but in order to go after ToA, and to offer something unique, that means an absolute MOUNTAIN of custom map effort. CoS is much smaller scale, in a market that has better coverage (but there is still opportunity for custom maps to be sure), but there's still room to stand out due to it's popularity, as long as you are up for the art-style challenge. Which means MUCH fewer maps, but MUCH more time for map to make them really shine. Just my 2 copper. :-)

2024-03-06 21:58:08 +0000 UTCI didn't expect all the love to ToA! All of the 3 early front runners (ToA, Strahd, Avernus) excite me and would be awesome projects. ToA - jungle/ruins; Strahd - moody and dark; Avernus - hell and war machines. Very different settings but also very different from what I've been mapping lately (cities and dungeons) so it'll be fun to mix it up wherever we land

2024-03-06 20:59:18 +0000 UTCI definitely think I need a break from Waterdeep. I'm thinking I might try and do some of the Ch. 2 locations or Alexandrian add-ons as one-offs here and there, but need to change it up for the main focus.

2024-03-06 20:57:08 +0000 UTCIf Tych doesn't end up doing ToA, look up DM Paul Weber's maps. They are quite good too.

2024-03-06 20:32:11 +0000 UTCAlso throwing my vote for ToA. Besides the big dungeon part, I would love to have more detailed maps of the smaller areas/temples. Or even encounter maps for certain parts of the map.

2024-03-06 19:57:38 +0000 UTCI'm still pretty new to D&D and love that you took on this project. I was just thinking yesterday what what you would do next. Just happy your still going!

2024-03-06 19:39:18 +0000 UTCYou're probably wanting to get out of Waterdeep after so long, but maybe consider looking at Alexandrian and othet add-ons to see if there are any connected maps that might make sense?

2024-03-06 19:39:00 +0000 UTCToA no contest, Avernus is played out and ToA is a great follow up to DH/MM

2024-03-06 19:37:03 +0000 UTCCurse of Strahd is a decent choice, although there are quite a few maps out there. However, its one of the modules that is largely rewritten by a lot of DMs. I'd want something like DragnaCarta's rewrite to be supported.
