SPOILERS! If you haven’t read Chapter 5 yet, you should do so before reading further.

Chris survived his exodus across the desert and reached an outpost of civilization; a small town on the border of the Navajo reservation. While talking to his mother on the phone, Chris made the shocking discovery that he was aboard the alien ship not for one night, as he had believed, but nearly a year!

Since getting his Jeep running doesn’t appear to be an option, his best bet is to catch a ride to Albuquerque with one of the friendly Navajo folks that he met at the gas station. But he has to decide which of them he will travel with, and decide right now, since the girls are ready to leave.

From Chris’ point of view, the main concerns are time and money. If Chris goes with the girls, it will use up what little cash he has available, but he will get to Albuquerque quicker. If he goes with the guy, Johnny, he can keep his cash but has to wait a day before setting out.

From your point of view, as a reader, you have to decide two things: 1) With whom would you like to see Chris form closer bonds in the coming chapters? And, 2) What sort of direction would you like to see the plot take in the immediate future?
