Jen, Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson were literary characters created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in the late 1800s. In their stories Watson was indeed the chronicler of Holmes' adventures. Your observations were correct in that in this film Holmes was given a James Bond persona to make the character more appealing to current movie goers. Check out the movies of the great Basil Rathbone and the TV version of Sherlock Holmes' adventures played by the great Jeremy Brett to get a real feel for the character. Not my favorite version of the character, but you gave a great review as always!
