There's a fifth book called "Mostly Harmless" that should be mostly forgotten. Adams later said the book's tone was too bleak and it was due to personal issues he was going through at the time (a divorce if I remember correctly). He did work on this script, though. He went through 6-7 drafts for Spyglass and Disney before his death in 2001.

2023-06-16 18:04:38 +0000 UTCThe casting in this film was phenomenal. Best of all was choosing Stephen Fry to be the Voice of the Book, and Alan Rickman to be the voice of Marvin the android. I can't imagine any better actors for either of those roles.

(There are at least four books in this series: The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy; The Restaurant at the End of the Universe; Life, the Universe, and Everything; and So Long and Thanks for All the Fish.) Douglas Adams died long before this film was made, but I think they used some of his original screenplay from the *earlier* radio & TV series in it…
