Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997) Full Length Reaction

Guard, begin the unnecessarily slow-moving dipping mechanism!

Well this was so much fun!!!! Love a good goofy spoof and Austin was every bit James Bond in his own way! So many awesome homages and quotable lines! Dr Evil is an icon!! πŸ˜† Ready for the sequel?! Who does #2 work for?! πŸ˜† Actually gonna watch Casino Royale 1967 next week before #2, as I do think there were probably references to it in this one!

**Note: This is the US/Canadian version, I didn't realize there were other versions**

Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997) Full Length Reaction

Very entertaining. Dr. Evil is definitely the star. πŸ’œπŸ˜‚

I think you must have caught all the references, and 95% more than any other reactors caught lol. I am sad you stopped the reaction at the moment during the end credits when Austin sang a really great song about the BBC, go back and listen to it. I think the series got better as it went on, my favorite is the third. Also I don't think I am related to the director of the trilogy Jay Roach lol.

Andrew Roach

I've never thought Mike Myers, and especially the Austin Powers films, were as funny as a lot of others seem to, but I'm very glad that you enjoyed them. Different strokes and all that.

There were some references to the 60s Casino Royale especially the Burt Bacharach music

Should check out "The Kingsmen" after the Austin Powers movies

Since I hadn't seen the full viewing in a while, I didn't realize some of the non-Bond references. I'm pretty sure the "Mrs. Kensington" is a reference to "Mrs. Peel" from "The Avengers" (The British spy show from the 1960s, not Marvel's Avengers, which, since the show originally started (Pre-Diana Rigg) in 1961, predates Marvel's Avengers in the comics by 2 years). Diana Rigg also played Tracy in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" so that ties her in with the film, there, too, with them getting married at the end. The song "Secret Agent Man" was from the TV show "Secret Agent" from the 1960s starring Patrick McGoohan. Since you're into spy stuff, you might want to consider another Patrick McGoohan TV show, The Prisoner (some consider it sort of a sequel to Secret Agent Man, although technically it isn't). It's only 17 episodes (Patrick McGoohan originally wanted only 7-10 episodes, but the producers wanted more episodes to make syndication more likely, so had added more for padding), but you might want to research which order to watch them, since fans of that show can be very particular on watch order,

I enjoyed this watch along. This movie is fun as hell and some scenes amused inner kid like the very long "Evacuation complete" scene. Mike Myers had to fight to do that scene. The execs didn't want it.

Todd Preble

It's crazy how much stuff has been cut out. Still plenty of gags to enjoy. But why do they do this? I'm not really a massive fan of these as a rule. They are fun however, and particularly great to see you enjoying the genre references. Obviously not your fault Jen. Censorship of a pretty tame comedy is honestly baffling. Does anyone know if the others got the same treatment? I'd hate to have to stop and start on those as well, really kills the comedy.

Daryl

They used some bits from the Beatles' Hard Day Night and Help films, 'In Like Flint', and other spy films trying to be like Bond. The 60s fashion craze, TV Shows like Laugh-In, and music shows/dance Hullabaloo & Shindig.

Clifton Owens

Hah! You caught Will Ferrell in his first film appearance! I couldn't think of any other Bond references. You caught a lot of them! Very impressive, Dr. Murray. Can't wait for the sequels.
