Bannock's Guide to the Monsters of Mejina
Mimic Rat
Yikes. Everybody hates these things, everybody knows them. It's almost redundant to include them, but since this manual is, as Stahl says, "comprehensive," I gotta do my due diligence and make sure it's all written down for posterity.
Mimic Rats look like Needlemice, 'cept they aren't. Funny how that works, eh? I don't know why they look like Needlemice, but it sure is annoying. They're both equally dangerous in different ways.
So Mimic Rats can play back any noise they hear perfectly, using the weird mouth on their stomach. They use that mouth to eat, too, and boy does that bite hurt. You can lose a finger to that no problem. And boy will they eat. They can pack away three hundred pounds of meat in a single day. Other than that, they basically have all the same features as Needlemice.
A well placed kick can probably deal with one Mimic Rat, but I wouldn't recommend it. If it turns out to be an actual Needlemouse instead, you're fucked. The entire den will be on you in seconds.
Stahl's Notes:
Mimic Rats, after much deliberation and investigation, were proven to actually be related to both Twisters and Lumir. As to how this is, we don't understand. Technically speaking, they can take any shape they want, not just Needlemice, but apparently it is their preferred shape.
