I'd be wondering if the guy was suddenly uncomfortable because he wasn't sitting next to her anymore her being a woman not because of her size and the room he had since he was trying to lean on her side and suddenly he was trying to line away after they switched seats like the wife was probably more uncomfortable because he was trying to be creepy and get close more so than being claustrophobic justifiably so

Goth Goddess Barbie 😈💖🖤🔪

Lauren talks about sharks like I talk about history lol I love finding out what kind of weird or random category someone has a bunch of knowledge of

Itscydddd

Airline and bus manspreading is a SUCH a thing. I will literally half-bankrupt myself to buy better seats just to avoid being in that situation.

Elizabeth Moroney

I’d have to disagree just a bit with the first story. I do agree that the guy had no right to decide who to sit next to and he shouldn’t have been complaining but at the same time, the way the guy told him he “should’ve bought two seats” seemed a bit fat phobic in my opinion. However, again, I do agree that he was rude and shouldn’t have expected to sit next to a smaller person. I just think there could’ve been a better way to say it.

I think the person in the middle seat of planes deserves BOTH arm rests !! If I’m sitting aisle or window I will purposely lean away from the middle seat that way they have their room! Because I’ve been in a middle seat SQUISHED before because both people were putting their arms deep into the middle arm rest … you get middle seat TAKE BOTH ARM RESTS ! It’s only fair !

Calling something innocent and harmless like Taylor Swift's following a "cult" trivializes the seriousness and trauma of the victims of real cults. It's like calling someone's minor fuss over burnt toast a "trigger moment" or a county jail a "concentration camp." Activists and cult survivors work tirelessly to bring the horror they're fighting to the cultural fore and grouping in the evil that's victimized them with benign social phenomena is offensive. It would not be hard to come up with another word for a Pop Music Fandom--that term by itself seems to do the trick.

No

Yay Lauren! So happy for you! Y'all seem very happy :)

This is the whole reason the cult pod people have their scale! They’re super upfront that they’re not comparing Pelaton lovers or Swifties to people in NXIVM. I think they’re scale is also super helpful! Anything can become a “dangerous” cult if you let it take over your life and find yourself being controlled or manipulated. But you can also take part in a lot of these more harmless ones if you’re just aware of your intentions, how involved you are etc.

As someone who was in LLR, (there’s a picture of me in episode 2 😬) it and many MLM’s are 10000% cults. I didn’t wear jeans for 3 years because the “rules” were only wear what you sell. They were so unbelievably controlling and I’ve been through multiple years of therapy now processing what I went through now that I’m out.

I loved the cult episode. I think a lot of people forgot that they use a traffic light system to categorise which ones are/aren't harmful as there is a very wide spectrum of cults. I recently joined a 12 step program but I'm really not religious so I found the cult episode super timely to open my eyes up to some of the more problematic aspects of the program before it became normalised to me

Courtney DC

i def say it like "fack" or "facts" .. i think.

Mary Hallaren

Brian sliding in with "I hate pickles" at the very end was so iconic. Like he spent that whole episode thinking in the back of his mind "I can't forget to make sure everyone knows the pickles thing was the lie"

Here to comment on that cult thing y’all mentioned at the end of the podcast- I started following them after that episode and it opened my eyes to even the things that I follow almost like it’s a cult. It provoked some self reflection and gave me a new podcast to follow. Thank you for having them on! Also, my thoughts are with you and your family Morgan! I love this podcast and look forward to it every week!!

speaking on the cult thing: i think things like MLMs and even sometimes fandom culture is 100% classified as a cult. especially MLMs because they actually partake in cult practices like lack of sleep, cutting you off from friends and family who don’t “support your business”, and when you figure out it’s unhealthy and try to leave they cut you off and you’re left with no one and it makes you want to join another MLM or something to find that community. and that’s why people who leave MLMs end up in new ones like Monat, arbonne, mary kay, etc. tbh i recommend looking up Anti-MLM youtubers like kiki chanel or Hannah Alonzo, they go in depth with a lot of these things also read horror stories about them and how similar to religious cults they really are. also i recommend the Lularich documentary on prime video, it talks about this too. i had a friend who joined a forex MLM and it inspired me to look into it to try and get her out of it or encourage her to leave and i found an entire community on youtube. they prey on poc, woc, women, AFAB people, and lower class people. it’s a predatory and scary “industry” and are called “corporate cults” for a reason.
