New(ish) listener and I’ve been binging videos for the past month. Just watched this episode today and the story broke my heart. Did a little deep dive into the OP’s story to see if there are any updates. He seems to be doing okay, in university but relationship btwn OP and his dad/SM is so awful still. He is truly so resilient.

2022-09-09 01:57:09 +0000 UTCMy SD told me at 9 that I’m out at 18. Military or college but they’re not helping me. Also i couldn’t get a license or car till 18 so good luck saving with a job. I left “kicked out” at 15 moved in with my now husbands family who love me as their own.

2022-08-04 23:11:37 +0000 UTCwow this story brought up a lot of trauma for me. my mom's bf of 11 years was emotionally/mentally abusive and manipulative to (mostly) me and my 2 younger brothers and my mom never ever ever stood up for us. i was a teenager and this grown ass man would stand outside my bedroom door and talk shit just for me to hear. i'm 23 now and actually was kicked out at 19 bc of him. this makes me feel so awful and having nowhere to go is so scary and heavy. i'm sure the step mom's abusive comments and behavior have effected his self esteem and may have contributed to him being so closed off now! this makes me so genuinely angry and i hope he has a good update soon he deserves so much more than this. and no, YOU DONT OWE YOUR PARENTS ANYTHING FOR THEM PARENTING YOUUUU!! like ^^ said, YOU put your kids here!! it's literally your only job to take good care of them! your neglect is going to effect this other small human you created for the rest of their lives

She would only do things while my dad, brother and step brothers weren't around, so he didn't believed me for years! One time her and I got into a HUGE fight and she called my dad saying I was abusing her when that was NOT the case. So, when he got home from work, he took me on a drive to calm me down, then proceeded to berate about how I should be a better daughter and step child. When we got home he said "thanks for ruining my marriage" and slammed the door. It wasn't until 2 things happened that my dad believed me and started changing his tune. I called my dad in the middle of a fight and just let him listen to how she spoke to me, and #2 my brother and 1 of her boys had to pull her off of me while she was hitting me. I could go deeper into THAT relationship, but it would be a novel. All I have to say is CHOOSE YOUR FUCKING CHILDREN! You put them on this earth, so it's your job to defend them.
