The Dotty Bits

Now that I've been able to get at least a working map of one of the larger parts of the world created after about 25 years, I've been starting to plug my notes into the 'Matrix' in a manner of speaking.

I've been using an app called 'Legendkeeper' to slowly begin the monumental task of inputting the notes from those 25 years, setting markers and way-points of where everything noteworthy is so I can stop losing ideas and facts through the prodigious holes in my memory (Likely caused by woodworms).

I'll be able to actually give a clue to everyone where some of the pictures I'm doing are based out of.  A geographical chronicle of some of the journeys and homelands of the cast of muppets that inhabit the mad spinning marble rattling around in my head.  And as pictures are finished or sketched out, I'll be able to actually set them in the right places in Legendkeeper for my own records.

It will allow me to expand upon and actually write about some of these areas in a cohesive way, showing the way-points of the area as a cut-out, and then noting some of the creatures wobbling about the place.

I still have tweaks and fixes to make to Valhaadrune.  Some mistaken LABEL images left in (the program I used to make this is phenomenal, but its text function sometimes makes me want to scream at passing cars).  I also have to now come up with new places to fill in some of the blanks, though that is for a far future date.

Once the tweaks are done I have 2 more continental style  maps to make.  One of the Aegencald - The far frosty southern continent Berrand hails from that features the scars of the old Indorillian wars, as well as the Eastern Landfalls - Calaphasaara, home of the cloud tiger folk and human trading companies, Qiuloa, home of the Laontran people and magic of the darkest past, The Withering Stretch, home of Aegypt-esque city states culminating in Aman'Dun, and the little bits in between.

None of this will cut into time doing sketch-work and paintings, since I tend to work away at this on my day's off, or for an hour or two before bed or after work.  I've only been able to do this much work due to the weather being ungodly hot here, and the old house not having any AC beyond fans and open windows.  A little bright light to work on the world while my computer is having a meltdown :)

I guess its better late than never.  I regret having waited over two decades to actually get this stuff pinned to locations instead of nebulously floating around the groaning reaches and dead rocks in my head.  I'm looking forward to showing the journey's of some through this, and even re-reading things I haven't looked at in decades.

Stay safe, folks.  More to come later.

Its so worth it, in the end. Taking the time to actually square away the little details on the side, the world, the building, because it means you can figure out the scene much easier, and even write in (or draw in my case) un-forseen things. Details like a favourite chair, or what might be lining the window, simply because those things were there to write about in the first place :)

This is one of the most challenging parts of storytelling - knowing where everything is. Mapping out the world and the specific locations in that world. Even where everyone is standing inside a room. But, once you do, the story will flow much more easily, as you'll know what does and doesn't make sense in the place the story is presently in.
