'When your squirrel companion is a bit of a jerk, you tend to gain unexpected visitors'.
I was given the opportunity to try my hand at drawing an anthro-Deer in a fantasy/outdoor setting and had a lot of learning to do as to how deer antlers worked. In the end I had to find front and side and even top-references to figure out the twists and turns of them. They might look like the kind of poke out everywhere but there's a really nice rhythm to how those antlers work.
I also got to look up pictures of squirrels and raccoons (though trying to find images of raccoons that weren't tied to 'zombie raccoon' phenomena was a bit of a chore). I was fairly uneasy about trying to ink pine trees, but I felt they really fit the theme of a deer. Inexplicably linked for some primal reason, but they seem to have turned out looking like trees.
As always, I love drawing these sorts of images. There's an asymmetrical imperfection that nature affords which allows for the use of all kinds of lines and marks and textures everywhere that all comes together with a pleasing harmony.
This sketch is late by about a week and a bit, but I'm starting to get back on track. The next patron up for a sketch this month will be notified at the end of the month instead of the usual mid-month that I try for, so hopefully I can get that done for early next month. The next after that is a new patron at that level (Hi!) and then the list will resume.
Until the next post, stay safe folks.
Hoard your acorns,
