Oakburn Opus Part II: Illustrations

Part 2 of Oakburn Opus follows the investigative horror/true crime genre, in this story we explore Marvpyas' influence on a smaller scope, influencing only a single unknown individual to commit horrific acts. The writing was heavily inspired by H.P Lovecraft, this is where we see the first mentions of the Drowned City, the name "Marvpyas", and a more solid introduction of Martha into the story.

The color grading relies heavily on the contrast between blue and red (a contrast essential to the story's themes), red being particularly omnipresent during the Lebedev brothers' murder sequence.

We also have the first instance of the song "The Boy With the Gun" by David Sylvian, this song has themes that will directly parallel the story of Marvpyas.

Here are the HD versions of the illustrations used in the video.

Comments

I think the stranger that was being controlled by Marvpyas was Alex Lebedev. It was never shown and nor was it implied that he died. The only things that were said was that he "dreamt unquietly" and that he "wandered unconsciously". So what i think happened was that he was led to the lake by Marvpyas. Maybe he followed the melody through his dreams all along. It would tie up the loose end as to what happened to him and also explain how "John Doe" somehow managed to find the Lebedev Brothers out of all people. It just makes sense to me. Awesome illustrations as always ∆⭕∆
