Marvpyas' concept art
Added 2025-06-14 20:42:29 +0000 UTCMarvpyas is a monster born from a cursed lake. Following this theme, I wanted his appearance to reflect common characteristics of sea monsters, such as Lovecraft's Dagon—with fins, scales, piranha teeth, and other details not yet shown.
In addition to the marine aesthetic, his design needed to be simple (due to VFX limitations) but also easily identifiable as a silhouette, thus the horns and the cloak.
The "horns" and the cloak were inspired by typical portrayals of the Pied Piper of Hamlin, in which the character wears a similarly shaped hat and clothing.
Many small holes cover his skull. These perforations are interconnected and vary in size. When met with wind, they produce a melody similar to a flute.
However, among the grotesque, Marvpyas also had to be strangely beautiful. After all, he is the false gift that condemned Old Oakburn, a rotten but mesmerizing gem.

I love that one of your concepts for his design is that he’s supposed to be oddly beautiful, as if he’s a lure. Like yeah he’s still an otherworldly lake critter but he’s also alluring. Also being able to play flute music with your face is badass.

2025-06-24 05:40:27 +0000 UTCMatthaus with the way he was cursed by a blasphemous serpent deity honestly reminds me alot of Messmer and his curse from Elden Ring (especially with how in his second phase he has scales all over his body and becomes alot more serpentine in nature in general). I also couldn't help but think of Messmer's Flame when i heard the quotes „A burning ember boils within. The dark fire" and „Roar the fire from nine circles!" Both serpents seem to stem from a certain abyss as well. Idk i think it's just a cool coincidence. It is for that reason alone i imagine that when Marvpyas "burns the veil" he literally summons the "abyssal" serpent deity to devour everyone in its path and condemn them to the drowned city.
