Action Required: LegendKeeper is moving off of Patreon.

Hey Patrons, Braden here! We've officially started our migration off of Patreon.

We're asking that you move your billing details from Patreon to LK's new in-house system.

When you update your LegendKeeper client to 0.11.1.0, you should see a little prompt on your LK home screen to add your billing information.

As mentioned in a previous post, we'd like to offer a lifetime discounted price to all current and former patrons: $5 a month or $54 a year. Changing billing systems is complicated and stressful, so as an additional incentive, we're also offering a fun PDF puzzle encounter to those of you who move over by Feb 14. The delivery date is TBD, but it would be pretty soon.

Also, I know it's not financially possible for everyone, but it would be a massive help for us if you opted for the yearly plan if you haven't already. The yearly plan for current and former patrons is the largest possible discount (40% off from the regular price). Getting the funds upfront helps us achieve our financial goals faster, like bringing Justin on full-time and hiring more developers.

How it works:

  1. Navigate to your membership settings on your LK home screen.
  2. Click "Claim" to add your billing details. We'll grant you "trial days" equal to what you've already "purchased" with your pledge. For example, if you're a monthly pledge and move your billing details today (the 28th), you'll get four free days. If you're an annual pledge and pledged last November 10th and moved over today, you'd get 286 days, etc. We don't want to double-charge you.
  3. Fill in your details and hit "Start Trial.” After a few moments, you should get a success message and land on the notifications screen.

4. Pick the email lists you'd like to subscribe to. These emails will gradually replace their Patreon equivalents, like the weekly, newsletter, etc.

5. Remove your pledge from Patreon if you'd like. 

Why are you switching billing systems?

While we are eternally grateful for Patreon providing a launchpad for us, the main reason we're switching is that Patreon makes it difficult for new users to try LK. New users had to pay upfront and undergo at least 12+ account creation steps if they didn't already have a Patreon account. (To put numbers to this, 99% of visitors to the LK site simply left when they saw they needed a Patreon account). With our new system, we can make signup just two steps and offer a free trial, neither of which was possible before.

Additionally, as we grow, we use less and less of Patreon's features, and their 8%+ cut stops making sense financially.

What happens to the Patreon page?

The Patreon will stick around for a while. We'll still be posting weeklies and changelogs here, replying to comments, etc., during the transition. We expect moving everyone over will take some time.

You'll still be receiving your promised Patreon perks, such as stickers for the $10+ tier and a music video from Braden. We have not forgotten.

You are welcome to keep pledging here if you want to throw extra money at us, but generally, we expect folks to move their billing details to LK and then un-pledge from this page, using email and Discord to keep in touch with us.

What happens to the full accounts I granted to my friends?

As a perk of the closed beta, when Patrons invited their friends to LK, those friends were granted full accounts.  They’ll still be able to create projects for one more month, but if they want to continue creating, they’ll need a LegendKeeper subscription.

They can always participate in others’ projects for free. If any of your invitees ended up using LK for their own projects, you should let them know that’ll be changing in a month or so.

Does anything look wrong?

Moving to a new billing system is complicated! While I've done the best I can to get everyone's details moved over, it's hard to keep records of every email change, off-Patreon payment, PayPal donations, Ko-fi donations over the past 3+years.

If you're not offered the right deal in-app, confirm you’re using LK 0.11.1.0, and then file a support ticket at https://lk.quest/support under Billing, and I'll get you figured out. Include details like your LK email, any receipts you can find, etc.

Updating data from Patreon takes time, so at the beginning of the month you might not be credited the right “Free days”. If so, just give us some time to import the new data and try again in a day or two. Your access to LK will not be affected.

You don't support my preferred billing method!

Billing is pretty new to us; let us know what you need! Your discount is safe (lifetime!) in the meantime while we get it figured out.

I picked the monthly membership and can no longer access the patron-exclusive yearly membership? I wanted to upgrade to yearly after reading this post.
