Robert Vesco is one of the few people who Red would consider a true friend or atleast he would in the past. This is the first time we see him so it looks obvious to us but for Red Vesco is like a brother. He thought him everything Red knows so it only makes sense that he is the one person who could fool him.

I love your passion for the character of the great Raymond Reddington, but I do have the benefit of "overwatch" (although I still have not watched the final series yet.) There is a strange similarity between The Blacklist and Stargate SG1 here. Every series they will have a "fun" episode where the main plot is something that the actors just have a ball playing with and is not meant to be taken too seriously. This was an "Opera Heist" episode with a drunk German explosives expert, an old confidence trickster, a very short DVLA tracker calling "Fire" in a crowded theatre and lost gold bullion from a pirate ship. This was not one of the "serious" mainstream episodes, although that Samar subplot was a bit "real." The confidence trickster is a very famous actor called "Stacy Keach." I recognised him at once and have just checked IMDB and he has been in 263 different series/programs over the past 60 years (!) At the end of the day I'll just say that Raymond was not taken for a fool in the sense of the real series, this was just him being "deceived" by his old mentor. They do have some episodes like this which I love, compared to those which just make me hate "Lizzy" even more. This was a "light relief" episode. Have a good night chap. :-)
