Today's drop is a translation of the fanzine published initially in 1993 by Hideaki Anno. In it are essays and interviews that analyze and summarize Char's Counterattack. The book is a pet project of Anno's as a sort of "response" to the lackluster (or, honestly, radio silence) commentary on the film after its debut back in 1989. Most have probably seen the "infamous" Tomino interview deceptively quoted out of context, so hopefully, having the full scope of things will serve folks better (and see just how he crafts his characters). The book also serves as a sort of top-down view of the anime industry, with lots of comments on how shows were merely "riding on the coattails" of Gundam and the stagnation facing anime as a whole. This has been a project that's taken me well over a year to work on, given the sheer volume of the interviews and just how raw and unfiltered everyone is in it. Most of the interviews have been edited for clarity, but they are otherwise presented in their unvarnished format for everyone to take in.
