September 2017 Update

Hey everyone, just a quick update about what's going on.

First up, when posting pages this month I posted the first two pages together in a single post. Since pledges are per-page that means I'm shorting myself, so that's why this is a paid post. That will bring us up to the four paid posts for the four pages this month.

Speaking of paid posts, I've put a lot of thought into this and decided to switch over from "per page" support to "per month". It's just easier for everyone ...

Samus Returns Alternate Wallpaper

Here's an alternate version of the Samus Returns desktop wallpaper I made. This version looks better on my desktop, while the previous version looks better on my laptop, so I figured I'd give you guys options!

Samus Returns!

Metroid is probably my favourite Nintendo game series, especially the sidescrolling entries. It's been a long time, but we finally have a new one, so I made this to celebrate.

I've posted it all over, but you guys get to be the first to enjoy it in 1900x1080 desktop wallpaper glory!

September Pages 1 and 2 + Update

Hey everyone! Here's the first two of Septembers pages.

Pages 3 and 4 will be coming soon, by the end of next week. I hit an unexpected financial issue at the end of last month so I had to put more time into commissions and less into comic pages.

But because of you guys I won't have to do much to cover my first bill of the month, so I can focus on getting the next two pages caught up and p...

MORE Good News, Everyone!

"The Sprawl" is coming to ComiXology! I just got the acceptance email!

One small addition, I'm not going to be releasing individual chapters, per-se. Instead, print and digital releases will be done in arcs. I've also settled on names for the arcs to go along with print and digital releases.

The first arc, which begins and ends with LOG:01, is titled "Imputation" View Post

GOOD NEWS everyone!

I'm making a small change to subscriptions.

Starting in September, you will still get early access to each month's Sprawl pages, but now your pages will be in ( ( ( HD ) ) )! That's right, subscribers will be getting higher resolution pages.

Look forward to it!

August Subscription Page 5!

So yeah, August is a five week month! So here's that extra page.

Now that I'm all caught up on comic pages and freelance work I'm going to knock out that commission info page. And since the weather has cooled down and I'm taking commissions again be sure to follow me on Picarto so you get an email notice whenever I start streaming!

August Subscription 4/4

That's it for this month's pages! I'll see you all again in about a week with some sketches!

August Subscription 3/4

I just really like how this and the next page turned out.

August Subscription 2/4

The Sprawl isn't overcrowded, because the city continues to expand faster than the population, but the population is growing at a tremendous rate and there aren't enough jobs to keep everyone employed, most live off a sustenance level stipend and try to get jobs to pull themselves up to a better standard of living. This also means people are more willing to take dangerous jobs, like expeditions to the poles for a mineral survey.

Thank you again, everyone! Here's your August issue of "The Sprawl!"

Commissions Opening Soon

Hey subscribers! In the next two weeks I'll be open for commissions again. You'll be able to contact me via email (Snowdon@gmail.com) or drop by one of my Picarto streams if you want to see it done live!

I'll likely be limiting these to simple character portrait type commissions like the sample above, starting at $60 a character.  Later in the week I'll post more information.

Help Unlock New Content!

Hello everyone!

You all know that if you pledge to a subscription tier you get that tier's monthly content. But I wanted to also make sure everyone knows that the more subscribers in our community, the more content that will be made available to everyone!

I've streamlined the descriptions of each unlockable so you know exactly what you will get when we reach that Goal. For example, when we reach...

Patreon Update!

Hey everyone,

Six months ago I moved away from NYC, drastically reducing my living expenses, and I figured it was time to change my Patreon goals to reflect that. The first goal, which will let me start releasing two pages a week, is now only $100/page.

Back in December swe were already at about $90 per page. Support dropped off in January, but since then it has been steadily rising and I'm confident we can get back up there.

Spread the word! Tell your friends about The Sprawl! Tal...

Thank You

I just wanted to say thanks to all of you who have been supporting The Sprawl. Some of you have been here since the beginning. Some throw in support when they can. Some of you are new readers who just found the comic and decided to help keep it going.

Whether you're pledging a dollar a month, or $10 a month, your support means a lot to me and it's the main reason I've been able to keep The Sprawl going beyond the first chapter.

So, again, Thank You!

July Page Dump 4/4

And yet more new characters! Here we have the chief of security for the platform and a member of the science team assigned to the platform.

According to the company, the science division is studying the climate effects of the operation. The platform is primarily an ice mining operation. As the city continues to expand so does the population, which means more water is needed. The city is also terraforming the planet's atmosphere, making it breathable.

The city is a colony and most o...

I also love panels that let me show the size difference between various characters in The Sprawl. I'm not sure that comes across all that often.

Creator note, I spent a big chunk of last summer just working on new character designs for this chapter. It feels good to finally show them off in the comic.

July Page Dump 1/4

It's that time again! A new month, a new page dump!

Continuing new character introductions, on this page we meet Yaffa and Dee. Yaffa, a boar, is the head of the engineering department, which as she sees it makes her the most important person on the platform.

Dee, a ratling, is one of the engineers in Yaffa's department.

LOG:01 Revisions

Here's one of the biggest revisions so far. I never liked how this page turned out and when I went to change it I decided to add Bonnie since the next page reveals her laying on top of Getta like this when they come to.

As you've probably noticed, I've also been cleaning up a lot of those ugly word balloons from the early pages.

LOG:01 Revisions

I've wound up losing over a week this month to being sick but I've found that it doesn't take much time at all to crank out a lot of the page revisions I've wanted to make to LOG:01. So far this month I've spent maybe 3 days total working on page revisions but I've gotten so much done. Most of the changes are just colour corrections like above, but I've also continued making art revisions where necessary.

Regardless of how much I get done, I'm calling it at the end of the month. Revisions for ...

LOG:01 Revisions

There's the bulk of the art revisions right there. These first pages were all done over the course of about a single week in 2013, Aside from Getta, none of the characters were designed ahead of the comic. They were all designed on the page.

The goal was to see how fast I could make these pages.

I'm going to continue spending about one day a week for the next couple of weeks revising pages. The more noticeable changes will be coming to pages 18 and 36. The rest will be pretty minor chang...

I'm almost done with the bulk of the art revisions. After page 9 it's mostly text exits.

LOG:01 Revisions

I'm really happy with these revisions  so far. They're simple, quick revisions, but they're making the opening of LOG:01 look much more in line with the rest of the comic.

Like I said, I can't spend a lot of time on these changes but sometimes simple things like tweaking lighting/shadows/colours and improving the word balloons can make a world of difference.

LOG:01 Updates

I do not like going back to earlier pages to change things, but I'm trying to pitch the comic to some publishers so over the course of this month I'll be going back to polish up that first chapter.

Nothing really major.  Mostly text edits, making some of the word balloons on the early pages look nicer, and fixing up only the worst of the art.

For example, on this page I added more detail to the shot of The Sprawl in the first panel, including the huge arches you see...

Old Comics 2/2

Pierce asked about some of my previous comics. Here's a couple of the later pages from my first web comic that I started in 2004 and regularly updated until about 2006-2007.

I'm considering reposting this to one or two of the popular webcomic sites to see how it does today.
