A look ahead to what’s coming this week

I don’t know if you guys have heard but there are some pretty major fights happening this coming weekend.

But aside from that I’m recording a collaborative episode with another analyst that will hopefully be a very interesting and unique historical VIDEO. We’ll record it this Wednesday and hopefully it will be up sometime in the next week.

Is Ilia Topuria the best pound-for-pound fighter in the sport? Is Khamzat Chimaev the most worthy title challenger at middleweight? Is Magomed Ankalaev a complete moron? These questions and many more are answered in this episode!

The Current State of Flyweight (part 3?) and other fights I wanna' talk about!

Is it really 'part 3' of 'The Current State of flyweight' or have I done more? Anyway, covering all sorts from Royval-Taira to Francis Ngannou's last fight (and next move!) to this past weekends Apex card to Murtazaliev bludgeoning Tim Tszyu!

Podcasts this week!

Hello to all of you! Just to give you a preview of what you can expect this week.

First, at some point before Saturday there are four key bouts I want to discuss (3 x MMA, 1 x boxing) so you will see that episode in the coming days.

Then on Sunday there may just be a fairly intriguing UFC card to discuss as well….all jokes aside, I’m considering doing this as a ‘live’ episode. For those that haven’t listened to one of those before, that’s when I watch the event live, p...

Beterbiev is King! Was Bivol robbed?

What a beautiful fight Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol gave us, both answering all questions that any discerning fight fan might've had going into their unification bout. But who deserved to win really? Also, thoughts on the undercard including Ben Whittaker's fall from grace and Fabio Wardley's rapid rise to heavyweight prominence! And whwatever else I fancied talking about!

Let me know in the comments below how you scored the title fight!

Beterbiev vs. Bivol preview and prediction

As if Usyk-Fury wasn't enough, Saudi sports washing has come through for the fans again, as Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol put all the light-heavyweight titles on the line this coming Saturday!

Will Beterbiev's sledgehammer punches get the job done or will Bivol have the beautiful boxing to halt the juggernaut? It's about as compelling a match-up on paper as you'll find in all of combat sports. And I've got a bold prediction!

The Guide to Pride 1....UPDATE!

Morning all!

Thanks for your patience with what has proven a much larger project than I originally envisioned.

After years of research, hours of conversations (some which will make it into the final episode!), over 30,000 words and the equivalent of a 150-page novella, the script for The Guide to Pride 1 is complete!

We have a stacked schedule of fights these next couple of weeks, so I do not expect to commence audio production until November. But I hope this update...

UFC 307

Pereira-Rountree was every bit as violent as I'd hoped, but there were some interesting things going on that elevated it beyond the slobberknocker I envisioned. The women's 135lb division is taking shape, and there was a controversial decision in a pivotal men's 135lb fight. That, and other thoughts on what was a fairly entertaining pay-per-view card.

UFC Paris and Takeru gets off the deck to win

I talk about a handful of fights I found pretty darn interesting from this weekends UFC card in Paris, before heading on over to the East to judge where Takeru is at after an unexpectedly difficult fight.

Dubois destroys AJ

As the title says! But how did he do it and why did AJ not offer any answers? It felt like a big fight going into it and completely lived up to expectations, with Daniel Dubois exceeding the expectations of many (myself included) by beating Anthony Joshua from pillar to post for much of the fight. A bout this intriguing deserves a long discussion, so I hope you enjoy this one!

UFC 306 / Joshua vs. Dubois preview & prediction

We have a NEW champ in one of the deepest divisions in mixed martial arts. But is that a good thing and is the new champ worthy of that distinction? Unfortunately there was definitely only one title fight at the Sphere, so after a look at a couple of key fights from the undercard it's over to the United Kingdom's most prestigious sporting venue to offer a prediction on what Anthony Joshua versus Daniel Dubois might look like.

Naoya Inoue & The Exhibitionists

First off, a couple of big fights that took place in Japan earlier today. And then to end the episode, a couple of big names that have 'competed' in Japan themselves in recent years, as I look at the current state of two of boxing's all-time greats.

The delay…

…is calculated! The previous episode I wrote about is still coming, but I thought I might as well wait for Naoya Inoue to blast T.J Doheny inside of a couple of rounds first!

I think the main takeaway from DDP-Adesanya is that we really learned who both men truly are. I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below if you agree with my takeaways from this fight and what your opinions on the legacy of Adesanya are. Love DDP or hate him?

Also, some other takeaways from the main card.

Crawford edges past Madrimov / Umar emerges at 135

Leon Edwards could only deny his nature for so long and because of it we now have a NEW champion at 170lbs. Can't remember the winners name though, strangely enough. Hear me run down the full main card as it happened in Manchester (with a special place in Hell for a certain prelim fight) as well as touch on the boxing card further South of the country at the end of the pod. Enjoy!

Getting to know...Edwin Valero

The second installment of the 'Getting to know...' series is about one of modern boxing's most notorious knockout artists, and perhaps the only world champion who will ever retire undefeated with a perfect 100% knockout record.

The 'Golden Age' of Japanese bantamweights

Tenshin! Takei! Nakatani! Nishida! And...umm..Takuma Inoue?

Okay, well maybe not that last one but Japanese boxers are dominating one of boxing's flagship divisions right now. I look ahead to see who might come out on top, and why divisional dominance at 118lbs might point to the greatest challenge of Naoya Inoue's life up at 122lbs.

A big fight on the horizon for Bam?/ Van gets a lesson

Fernando Martinez showed out as one of the best super-flyweights on the planet with a very impressive win over lower-weight mainstay Kazuto Ioka, but more importantly marked himself as a potential opponent for 'Bam' Rodriguez. I look at what makes him an intriguing opponent for one of the best pound-for-pound fighters on the planet.

Also, a couple of highlights from UFC's recent climb into the Denver altitude, as Joshua Van got a lesson from seasoned pro Charles Johnson (and one that wi...

Bam Rodriguez is top 4 P4P / UFC 303

As expected, LOADS to talk about on this glorious Sunday morning. Jesse 'Bam' Rodriguez staked his claim as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in boxing with an electric win over modern legend Juan Francisco Estrada. I lead with that, because it's so rare that we get a fight between TWO current top 10 pound-for-pound entrants, and because the fight lived up to its billing.

Then it's over to UFC 303 and another devastating kayo from the scariest man in combat sports Alex Pereira. A...

We’ve got Bobby Knuckles versus Khamzat Chima…ah, well, Ikram Aliskerov is not the worst replacement, so should be enough to talk about.

Also, I’ll be running down the top 10 greatest boxing bouts of the 2010s. So expect a mix of recommendations, history lessons (well, an old fella reminiscing) and technical breakdowns to justify the picks!

UFC 302 & Queensbury Rules

A couple of fights worth talking about from UFC 302 (including that exhilarating main event!) before I move onto the mainly entertaining Saudi boxing card last night as Eddie Hearn and Frank Warren pitted some of their best against each other's!
