Did some final adjustments with Aqualine Dry Earth and also finished the video. And of course I had to break something... oh well...
Anyway, I'll probably do a bit more tonight. Now it's just about those finishing touches, I guess it'll be all over by Sunday!

Tracks are officially on! I finally see why they nicknamed it "Slider" 😆
Aaand I just noticed that left track is going in the wrong direction....

Tracks are done! (almost!)
After a quick dry fit I think I might do a few mini adjustments with some lighter earth tones here and there. I also decided to make a separate video about them as there are a few points I wanted to discuss, mainly how important is to use burnishing fluid and also how polishing their outer and inner sides is often forgotten but also important - and a separate video is easier to find for anyone looking for these tips. And surprise, the video is also done! (almo...

Hey guys, today I weathered those tracks, and I shot a small reference SBS for you. Spoiler alert: they were weathered the same way as the tank 😄
At first I wanted to make them into a short video on "general friul track weathering" but muddy tracks can be so boring at times that I would feel embarrassed. I still need to add some polished metal on the inside where wheels come into contact with them and they'll be done.
In the meantime, I'm gonna clean up and cut todays foo...

Here ya go mates, some legit photos of the dust and mud effects. Looking at them I feel really happy with the way this model is headed. The end is near!
Also you might have already noticed in the previous pictures that gun barrels are each slightly misaligned. This is because paint doesn't allow me to insert them all the way in. I'll need to fix it before I call this model done.
Tomorrow I'm starting with the tracks!

Well, here we go... I'd say the earth tones are pretty much finished. While applying them on the rear portion of the tank I had to constantly look at the photos of the unpainted, but assembled model so I could see where the mud would fly up from the moving tracks.
I tried to keep it rather subtle considering how far they extend from under the fenders. It's kind of funny calling this "subtle" 😄 but once you start somewhere, the rest of the model should look the same.
This ...

Okay, I had to post this first through my phone and then edit it on my computer because the "select which tiers can see this" button is broken in the browser version but works in the phone app.
So, first things first, Maya is perfectly fine and acting like her usual self again.
Second, I managed to fix the Aqualine dust tones by removing some from the fenders and adding more on the roof in a more random manner.
Last night I also speckled some enamel mud on the rear to ...

Mates,
got the Aqualine dust tones laid down. Or so I thought!
Turns out, and this is why taking regular pictures of your work is so important, that it needs more than just a few tweaks here and there. For example, the dust is much heavier on the fenders than I wanted (and than I thought while looking at it with my own eyes), and it's a little too "artificial" on the fighting compartment roof.
So tomorrow I'll have to address this and thanks to Aqualine I'm one l...

Looks like the Rutscher is starting to get into its final form! 😁
I also made a series of quick shots as a sort of quick reference so you can imagine the process more clearly.
Let's just say I'm keeping the weathering pretty light. Before I started today I spent about an hour just thinking how the tracks would throw up dirt and mud on the small tank and, well... if I wanted to go heavy, the entire model would've been covered with earth 😂
This has been a lot...

I couldn't look at that exhaust so I did a quick 5-minute fix, removed some of the rust with thinner and added just a few tiny dots into some corners and now I'm much more satisfied with the results.
Maybe I should've gone a completely different route in the first place, starting with the entire exhaust painted yellow as it was until now and just adding a few places where the paint flaked off, but we can only speculate about that now. Glad I didn't decide to make the exhaust into ...

All the details are done!
This was probably my first time since forever painting German tank bolt cutters. They're pretty interesting as their handles are a mixture of steel core, bakelite end caps and padding made from compressed paper. I wanted to make them more weathered to show the different materials according to reference photos. It's not the best thing but next time I'm gonna do a better job.
The exhaust was the final part, and I had a very nice reference photo at han...

Details.... it's insane to think that there's roughly 7 hours of work behind this.... and my naive idea today was that I'll be able to finish all of them in 5, including the convoy lights and the exhaust 😂
Needless to say the wooden handles aren't finished yet, it's just a base coat. And the bolt cutters have their handles not even painted, but if everything goes well, those will be a real treat.
I guess I should've just painted all of them silver 😅

Take a close look at all those chips before half of them get covered by dust and mud 🤣
Today I'm also giving you 2 extra close-ups which are gonna be in the video (the 1st and 2nd pic). These are my favorites from this batch and I wanted you to see them in full resolution.

So the chipping stage is complete and let me tell you that I had my ups and downs during this process.
In the end I'm very pleased with the results even though I rushed it in a few places, but the more important thing is that I found myself thinking several times about a more efficient way to paint chips. I think I came up with a solution where you basically paint the first light layer during the airbrushing stage (as a part of the distressing technique) and the rest will be the same pr...

Yeah, it had taken me some time 😁 But in the past 2 days I managed to complete the chipping all over the model and now I'm in the middle of the rust stage. I suspect it'll be done tomorrow. Then I just need to add some chipping over the weld beads and maybe some tiny dirt streaks from a few surface details and then I'll make a video out of it. I decided to document the detail painting in a separate video.
Hope you guys had a blast last night.

Hey mates, first off, I wish you all a Happy New Year full of happiness, awesome models, personal success, tons of love and lots of other goodies.
I apologize for my recent inactivity here. I spent Christmas doing typical Christmas stuff but then I contracted some quick, short and painfully efficient sickness on Friday, probably on a bike ride. So I spent my Saturday in bed and then in the ER, Sunday was pretty much the same but better. Today I feel pretty okay.

Hey guys, I've been slacking a bit during the past few days. I'm slowly getting into the Christmas mood and mentally bracing myself for all the family reunions, visits and all that holiday stuff. But funny enough this might be the first time in my life when I'm actually kinda looking forward to it. Just being able to do nothing feels kinda good after these few months.
I've been also taking it kinda slow because I had to think a lot about the technique on this model. Although I did...

I didn't wish for anything this year because having you all here is the best present and more than I could ever wish for. Love you all and thank you 😊

Ok, so I started with the chipping, or more accurately, had a warm-up lap. Sometimes I find it good to start in places which will be out of sight or covered with weathering and earth effects, because, and this is applies especially to subjects which you're not very familiar with, it's hard to imagine how the result will look.
So now it's time to move on to the upper surfaces and I'll probably make the chipping a little lighter than what you see here. It might be a nice change from what ...

Hey guys, here are some proper photos of the oil paint stage.
Camera was going crazy while filming the video and the colors are not 100% accurate there, so I also had to slightly alter the photos which will appear at the end, otherwise it would be a pretty stark contrast between the footage and the pictures. Camera has problems capturing the contrast between the dark yellow and green on video and it tries to compensate by making the yellow look even more yellow and green more dull. I tr...

Well I didn't post daily update yesterday, but every evening I kept working on the Rutscher and the result is this: finished washes and the ambient occlusion, or in this case, more like a color modulation with oil paints 😁
My goal was to make the shapes of the model more "readable" and even though I often kept thinking if I'm going too far with this or that, at the end of the day I feel like the model will benefit greatly from each of these effects.
Now I'm really curious...

Since posting the video I received some good feedback and most people with lots of zimmerit experience (that's an odd term) said to ditch the modelling putty and zimmerit applicator method and focus on the epoxy putty.
I've been also told that you can spread the putty really thin with a spatula. Since I don't have a spatula I used a cheap dollar store chisel which works perfectly. The key is to put a few very small blobs of putty on the surface and spread it with the aid of water....

Okaaaay, so today I managed to apply a filter and blend some oils on the Rutscher!
For some reason I'm extremely stoked about the result. I think the different oil tones blended the camouflage together very nicely while also adding very subtle stains and discoloration here and there. They also gave the model an overall satin, but more towards matt, finish. I mainly used 3 different paints: very light tan, ochre-yellow and light yellow. Some dark brown was blended here and there, b...

Hey guys, I'm working on this week's video, which will be, like we discussed a few weeks back, about my first attempts with zimmerit.
Here are the two results which I like the most. The first is plastic putty - Mr. Filler from MRP applied with a zimmerit scriber tool, and the second is Tamiya Epoxy rolled into a thin "tarp" and textured with the roller tool. Now both results have their pros and cons and of course I'd need a couple more test pieces to get a good hold at both techni...
